Abnormal Psychology (10-20-05)

The classroom is looking perfectly ordinary today. Professor Drusilla is sitting at her desk playing idly with a deck of cards and written on the board--whole and without any cracks on it--is an assignment.

Write a 100 word essay about what you've learned from the last class.

After you've turned it in, we'll begin discuss what you've learned.

There is a sign-in sheet on her desk.

OOC: We'll have separate threads for sign-in, essays, and discussion, as well as an OOC thread. As usual, due to the vagaries of time zones, everyone has until tomorrow to at least sign in and discussion can take...as long as it takes, basically.

I don't remember much of what happened last class. However, I do remember that It wasn't a good thing. I learned not to trust you, and not to participate in brain experiments, and to make someone promise to lock me up if I act strange.

((and the essay continues like this.))

Re: ESSAYS

[identity profile] dorky-broots.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Broots glares at Drusilla and writes two essays. The first one goes something like this: Last week, I learned that going to class is bad. I also learned that just because someone is a teacher, it doesn't meant that they're sane. Nor should I trust the teacher. The essay continues along the same lines. He keeps this one.

The second essy talks about bipolar disorder, how it gets in the way of life, its effect of the person and those around the person, and how cookies are good. This one he turns in.

From last class I learned in excruciating exquisite detail that a severe mental disorder such as Erotomania can be profoundly damaging to one’s life, relationships, permanent record, and sense of self. I indeed have a whole new sympathy for those afflicted with such disorders.

I also learned a not-to-be-forgotten lesson in trust and self-preservation: Namely that those with power cannot always be trusted to use it responsibly or sanely. Also that it is essential to have trusted friends who will be there to assist (and forgive) you when you are unable to assist yourself.

In consideration of that, I have learned to take extra precautions.

Callisto's essay starts Last class, I learned to ask exactly what a class assignment entails before agreeing, especially when the teacher has freaky mind-frell powers. It continues in this vein beofre concluding with Also, never sign a lifetime contract with an evil law firm, you'll end up stuck in an office listening to Hillary Duff for the rest of existence.

Last week I learned that Interesting Abnormal Psychology lessons make for excellent counseling sessions. Despite knowing full well that they were in no way responsible for their actions (at least on a subconscious level) feelings of guilt still remained. For instance, one student came in due to his guilty feelings at almost killing his professor and backhanding another student. Now, despite him knowing that he was crazy at the time, he talked at length about how it wasn't like him. Not only that he became defensive when asked if he occassionally felt like some of his classmates and profesors deserved to be hurt. All and all I must say it was fascinating and I'd like to thank you for such an enjoyable class.

After last class, I learned that sometimes going with your impulses is a bad idea, especially if your impulses are caused by a psychological disorder. Even if those impulses make you feel good because in a place like this people will end up talking about you for it. On the other hand, sometimes it's a good idea because good tings you didn't expect can end up happening to you. Really good, cute things that nibble on your neck and snuggle up with you at night and make you be all schmoopy in public.

Power of suggestion is, for lack of a better word, a powerful thing.

Last week, I went to Red's shop, where Duce and I both work. I hadn't seen Duce all day. Red told me she'd been acting weird, and finally asked him to call Rover to come and get her.

That was the first night of the full moon. I spent most of the afternoon and early evening worrying about her.

It was the first time in seventeen months I didn't obsess about the rising moon.

I learned just how much I really do care about Duce last week.

(exactly 100 words *g*)

Sadly, I was not in the most recent class due to being turned into a cat and cadging tummy rubs from as many female (and some male) members of the student body as I could an unplanned illness that forced me to change my plans. However, I am sure that the class was educational and eye-opening and likely left many mental scars on my classmates. There certainly seemed to be many repercussions all around campus due to some of the happenings. I cautiously look forward to actually participating in class once more. My regards to Miss Edith.

Roy turns in a 100-word essay on existential philosophy, since he wasn't, technically, there last class, but where is "here", really, and who's to say who is really anywhere? Especially those suffering from abnormal psychological traumas, who might be suffering their own existential crisis an merely projecting the abstract concepts of "here" or "there" onto unsuspecting passerby.

Last week I learned that while dementia may be disabling, it may not necessarily be unpleasant. It is somewhat freeing to be untrammeled by memories of the past or worries of the future, but to exist only in the present. It is also somewhat alarming to discover that you are eternally lost, never quite certain of where you are or when or even whether the person you’re talking to is real or a memory or a true hallucination. I believe that I learned a great deal from my experience in terms of tolerance, although I do not remember many specifics.

Jack didn't notice the post until all the fun things were over so I had him come in late. As a result he saw her talk to a couple of people and then class was done. Any way he could write "I will not come in late" a hundred times or would that get him detention?

Re: OOC

I'm trying to think of a good IC reason for Jack (Harkness, natch) to show up. He was SERIOUSLY freaked last week, and has an inkling that it was because of this class. I want to continue to play this, but I can't convince *him*.

Vala's going with the (not entirely bright) "Damned if that bitch can scare me off" approach. And regrettting it almost instantly, of course. *shrug* (She also put in a "check me over and give me a full decontamination tonight, please" message in with Janet. ;-)
