Horror 101, Monday

"Today is the day of your final," Mitchell intoned, then clapped his hands, grinning. "We'll be starting off with a few written questions. But after that, I've got something else for you."

He dumped a stack of papers on his desk. It, and several other flat surfaces in the area - including some of the students' desks - had acquired a cup of tea.

"We've talked about a great many fears over the past few weeks," he continued, "But the main one, the most quintessentially human one is the fear of death. The fear of being gone from this Earth, from what we are, the whole lot. Most of our fears come down to that: death."

"So to finish up your final," he continued, sitting down, "I've invited a friend in to talk about it. While you're writing, I want you all to come up with one question you'd like to ask about death, and she will answer it." He peered into the room, searching for Chloe if she was there and smiled slightly. "Don't worry, she doesn't bite."

He tapped his pen on the desk. "Now, get started! You've got thirty minutes."

"Kate!" Annie's idea of a little wave was... not so little. "You have no idea how nice it is to see a familiar face." Besides, Mitchell's, hush. The point was reinforcing that little thing where they weren't about to eat her alive, really.

No one was allowed to even attempt to eat Annie alive. Kate would punch the first one that tried.

"It's nice to see you too," she smiled. "Surprising, but nice."

"Oh, you know," Annie replied lightly, "I was out anyway. Just down to the shop for some milk, and I thought to myself, self? Why don't you drop in on Mitchell at the office? It's only a few thousand miles away!"
vanillajello: (Smiling and looking down.)

Kate snickered. "Yeah, I do that too, only in my case it mostly involves a quick walk over from the dorms."

She paused and leaned back in her chair. "So, I'm supposed to ask you a question about death, huh?"

"That's the idea. Or he fails you and you have to take the whole thing over and spend another term with him." The hardship of it all.
vanillajello: (Sitting and alert.)

Kate put on a horrified face. "Definitely wouldn't want that to happen."

Spending time with one of the few friends she'd have left once nearly everyone else graduated? Eww. "So, I guess I should try avoiding that."

She thought for a moment. Something not terribly profound. Death was not something Kate was too anxious to know more about.

"Do you miss tea? Like, does that kind of thing still feel... I dunno, important?"

And Annie was more than grateful for a simple question. "Oh God, yes. What I'd give to taste something. Anything. Doesn't have to be tea. At this point I'd settle for pickled herring kebabs."
