Horror 101, Monday

[chosehumanity]

"Today is the day of your final," Mitchell intoned, then clapped his hands, grinning. "We'll be starting off with a few written questions. But after that, I've got something else for you."

He dumped a stack of papers on his desk. It, and several other flat surfaces in the area - including some of the students' desks - had acquired a cup of tea.

"We've talked about a great many fears over the past few weeks," he continued, "But the main one, the most quintessentially human one is the fear of death. The fear of being gone from this Earth, from what we are, the whole lot. Most of our fears come down to that: death."

"So to finish up your final," he continued, sitting down, "I've invited a friend in to talk about it. While you're writing, I want you all to come up with one question you'd like to ask about death, and she will answer it." He peered into the room, searching for Chloe if she was there and smiled slightly. "Don't worry, she doesn't bite."

He tapped his pen on the desk. "Now, get started! You've got thirty minutes."

"God, I thought this term was just never going to end."

She'd felt the same way about writing her handwavy as the mun needs the brainpower for RL homework answers for the test, actually.

Mitchell grinned back at her. "You look like you've aged at least a decade," he snarked.

"Well, I feel like it, too."

"Soon you'll be a grey old maid," Mitchell said, seriously, "Students will visit you in your dorm room to bring you apples and watch on as you forget everyone's names every five minutes, and discuss philosophy with a potted plant."

"I don't know, Patrick has always looked pretty intelligent to me..."

She had a potted plant that she had named. Yes.

"Oh, good," he said, "You're already halfway there, then."

"We're in Fandom," she retorted, "I wouldn't be at all surprised if plants started talking to me."

"So you're just naming them as a precaution."

"No," she said, "I'm naming them in the hopes that I won't just forget about them and let them die if they have a little bit of personality, or something."

He said, not too sincerely.

"I hear that always works..."

"I'll have you know I've had Patrick for about six months now," she told him. "And he's as alive as ever. So it does work."

"And here I never knew you had aspirations to be a biologist."

Eyeroll. "So, anyway. I'm going home next weekend. I've been summoned, or something."

"Summoning seems to be the talk of the day," said Mitchell, vaguely. "Going to make a vacation of it?"

"Dad said something about a family meeting," Kate shrugged. "Not much of a vacation."
