Library [04/14]

Throughout the morning, Sam's thoughts wandered between worrying about finals, counting how many days were left until graduation, wondering what he was going to do for the summer, thinking about how soon his first year of college would start, and debating with himself about whether or not his relationship with Peter would survive the two of them living together.

And that was how Sam Winchester got his very own dark gray emo cloud.

Today was the rare occasion Chuck was wearing jeans, and there was a good reason for it too. Since he was, well, Chuck there was a constant gray cloud hanging over his head and, depending on how much his natural emo shifted, it would drizzle rain on him. He put on old clothes and started carrying an umbrella around after the third time it happened this morning.

He really wasn't lying when he said he told people he wasn't sunshine and rainbows.

"Your lunch might be a little wet. Sorry," Chuck said. He looked up at the cloud over Sam's head. "What's with you?"

There was a high, dark cloud following Henry around today, occasionally letting out a few fat raindrops.

He wasn't in an particularly bad mood; it was just the way of things. After he got a third book wet, he decided to stop trying to reshelve until this went away.

"I don't know, but it won't go away," Sam said, staring a little as he got a good look at Chuck. "Are you all right?"

No, he wasn't talking about the cloud. He was talking about the jeans.

"I've been getting rained on all day," Chuck said, frowning. The cloud got darker and Chuck tried not to dwell on it in order to avoid getting rained on again. "I hate this island sometimes."

"You'd think it would have had all its mean fun over the weekend," Sam said, frowning softly. "I don't know why it can't just rain outside."

"Because that would be too easy to avoid," Chuck said. "At least over the weekend I could wear my regular clothes without worrying they'd get messed up. This right here is ridiculous."

It occurred to him that he could avoid getting rained on if he just made an effort to not be a sullen bitch but that was hard.

Sam nodded in agreement as he took his lunch from Chuck. "Thank you for coming by anyway. You didn't have to come out here with something so weird going on."

"I like visiting you," Chuck said as he sat down. "We don't get to do this for too much longer."

Sam frowned at that, and his cloud got a little darker. "Yeah, I know. Just a few weeks. It's kind of weird to think about." Just weird though, not scary at all, really.

Chuck may have gotten a little satisfaction out of seeing Sam's cloud get a little darker. What? It felt nice to know he'd miss this.

"Yeah. Kind of hard to believe there was a time I was dying to get out of this place," he said. "You staying here for the summer?"

"I think I might be staying for the first half of the summer," Sam said. "Dean's thinking about coming back to teach and...I don't know. I've been here for four years. The thought of just packing up and leaving right away seems crazy, no matter how much I'm looking forward to the future."

"Yeah, it'd be kind of weird since your family is here and everything," Chuck said, his cloud getting a bit darker as he spoke. He kind of wished he hadn't brought this up. It was so depressing.

"Yeah," Sam said quietly, before thinking of something that made him lighten up a bit. "But hey, at least it'll be easy for me to visit you. Sort of, I think. I'm going to be in New York. Peter's New York, but with Portalocity it should be kind of a snap to just switch to yours."

"Of course it'll be easy. I use Portalocity all the time to get to work. Glad you're so willing to visit my city." Because there was no way in hell Chuck was going to any universe Peter lived in.

"I told you I'd come and visit you," Sam said with a smile. "I can't study all the time or I might have a nervous breakdown. Not that the idea of college isn't already making me nervous, but still."

"You'll do fine in college, Sam," he said, waving his hand. "Getting in is the hard part, everything after that is easy."

"You can say that because you don't have to go to college," Sam said. "Do you?"

"I don't have to do anything I don't want to. I'm Chuck Bass," he said with a 'duh' tone. "And I'm saying you're going to do fine in college because you are. Trust me, you're like the smartest person I know. Nate and Serena both got into Ivy League schools and you're gonna make them look like dumbasses."

They didn't really need Sam's help with that but whatever, it was still true.

"Yeah, but if they start to flunk, their parents can like, buy a building or something," Sam said. At least, that was how he assumed Ivy League schools worked. "I want to do well. I guess maybe being the smartest person you know might help though," he added with a smile.

"There are several building additions in New York donated in my name thanks to my unwillingness to do schoolwork," Chuck had to admit. "But you like that school crap so you have nothing to worry about."

"I hope you're right," Sam said, his cloud getting lighter as he felt a little better. "Still, I'm not ready to just pick up and go straight away. Are you going to stick around?"

"I shouldn't. I get my inheritance next month on my birthday and will officially be in charge of everything," Chuck said. "There's a lot of work to do."

Chuck didn't really have to share how he really felt about leaving, since as soon as he finished his last sentence the cloud above his head apparently got too full of emo and it started to rain on him.

He sighed and opened up the umbrella he had brought with him. "For the record, I'm aware this is bad luck."

"I think it's forgivable in this case," Sam said, not bothering to hide his own sad look. "It definitely won't be the same here without you, even though you'll be off doing something awesome."

"I think you're mistaking real estate for something more thrilling," Chuck said with a smirk. "Anyway, I haven't made my decision yet. Doing the responsible thing has never been my strong point, now has it?"
