Japanese Etiquette & Tradition, 4/12/10, Period 5

When students filed into the classroom today they'd see... A note on the board, telling them to get their behinds outside again.

And once they were outside, they would find Algren waiting for them, with a selection of baseballs, bats, and gloves waiting for them.

"I figured I would give the lot of you a break, considering how many are likely to have a small child with them," he said with a hint of a smirk. "And even if you don't, I imagine you can use a bit of downtime after the bustle of the weekend. All of you, grab a glove, pair off with one of your kids or with one another, and play catch or try to hit the ball with the bat."

Ah, bonding.

"If you're worried about the upcoming final, re-read your notes over the course of the week. For now, just play ball."

Kate Gregson, Dani Gregson, and Vivienne Atreides

And Moosh is totes a small child. And I totes did not just mistype Dani's name and accidentally make him a girl.

Elena, with Veld. She doesn't have any icons of small children, so here's one of her and Reno acting like small children instead.

Jill McTeague, who has no kids due to biology wonkiness.

Yamanaka Ino, Inori Fair, and Angeal Fair

Alas, though, that she has no icons for small children.

So, there was one thing Kate and her kids agreed about, and that was their shared disgust at the idea of playing ball. It was either boring (according to Dani), only meant for stupid boys (said Vivienne), or it just demanded too much energy (their mother was very tired).

So, Dani was doing stuff from his karate lessons. Vivienne stood by him and told him what he was doing wrong.

Kate... looked on, mainly.

"Are they both yours?" Elena asked, nodding to the boy and girl.

Veld, for his part, kept closing his eyes like he was falling asleep -- then shaking himself awake again. Elena wondered if she could cut class for naptime.

"Uh huh," Kate nodded, smirking a bit. "To a certain extent, anyway."

Dani kept glaring at Vivienne's instructions.

And yet he was still totally paying attention to them. Funny, that.

"Some people ended up with four or five," Elena said, shaking her head. "I can't imagine trying to keep up with them all."

To be honest, she was still trying to develop some form of maternal instinct with her one. Him being cute helped.

"Seriously," Kate nodded. "Two's more than enough. It helps that Vivienne is pretty smart, and Dani's pretty... old, but I'm still exhausted."

"You'd think they'd come with manuals," Elena said, shaking her head. "Even name-tags would help. My name is: blank. My parents are: blank. My favorite foods are: blank. Here is a way to get me to go to sleep on time."

"God, nametags would've been awesome," Kate sighed. "Trying to find out who these kids clinging to you are without freaking them out? It's awkward."

"This one couldn't tell me," she said, kissing the top of Veld's head again. "I knew that his stuffed animal was Bun-Bun, and I guessed who his father was fairly easily" -- it helped that the kid was a different ethnicity than she was -- "but I had to call him 'kiddo' for a full day."

Elena had Veld balanced on her lap. He was waving Bun-Bun around and singing to him.

Elena had decided she wasn't giving Veld back. Ever.

Momoko didn't care for sports at all, so she spent her class time sitting and watching and occasionally helping to run after a wandering wee one.

She was here!

And... to be fair... more focused on keeping track of her very ninja children as they played tag with one another.
