Magical Ethics: Week 12, Period 1

"Good to see you're all mostly in one piece," Alysha said, surveying the class as they came in. "And hopefully mentally unharmed."

"I'm not going to make you think too much today. You don't need to solve the dilemmas of the universe - whichever one you want or answer a whole bunch of my questions. Instead I want each of you to consider what we've talked about in class so far this semester."

She gave it a few moments, glancing around to see if people were following. "So, give it a few, and come up with a question that's either come up this semester and hasn't been addressed fully or one that you'd like to talk about but hasn't come up yet. Feel free to discuss 'em today or I'll take them into account over the next month of classes."

Tara took a moment, but eventually ventured, "I'd like to talk about ethics around people who aren't magical? Like, um, do you have to tell them you have powers, or does it not matter?"

"It shouldn't matter," Zack noted, frowning thoughtfully. "But I've met a few people who are from places where it really, really does. It'd be difficult to get a clear answer on that one, especially considering how many people around here have been given reasons to be afraid to tell others about what they can do, too."

Bobby came to mind. That ice stuff was awesome. But.

"I think it depends on who the person is. I don't always tell everyone, even here," Sam said. "If it comes up, I won't lie about what I can do, but it's not information I'm willing to volunteer just for kicks. For a lot of people, that's a matter of personal safety, and I don't think people should have to exit their comfort zone just to keep other people unnecessarily informed."

And here he'd thought he wouldn't have that much to say on the subject.

"It shouldn't matter," Tony said. "Unless you're using your powers on them, it's none of their business."
