Law & Order - Interdimensional Edition: Friday

There was a handwavey note for the students to meet outside today. Since the weather was just starting to get perfect for this sort of thing, what better day than now to illustrate walking a beat?

Vimes inhaled, looked at the class for a moment before nodding in something that could be considered approval. Probably wasn't, but it would do for now.

"Alright, fall into line then. Today we'll be doing one of the most basic parts of being a copper. Walking your beat," He said, gesturing toward the town. "You do this every day on the job, rain or shine."

Even if they were lucky bastards with this weather. In Ankh-Morpork, it would probably be raining frogs just to spite him.

"Along the way, you get a feeling for the place. When something doesn't feel right, who the usual suspects are and who you can ask questions about crimes. You keep it up and you just might be a decent copper." He waved vaguely at the assembled mass of children. "Get to it then."

Rose was - well, okay, she wasn't quite sure why she was wandering around outside, but it was a really nice day and the sun was shining, and it seemed like a nice time for a walk.

Anemone, for her part, had ditched her shoes and was swinging them as she walked along.

And if she occasionally stopped to talk to a tree in all seriousness, well, sometimes a tree talked back if you knew how to listen.

"Hi, Anemone!" Momoko smiled eagerly as she bounced up to walk alongside her friend. "Can I 'walk a beat' with you?"

"Sure, although I'm not quite sure why we all have the same beat," Anemone laughed. "If we're doing patrols, it would make more sense to assign a group of us to each teacher, and do different but overlapping sections of the island."

"I'm still not used to doing patrols at all, but you're right; that totally makes more sense. Unless maybe they want to make sure all of us have the same experience at the same time? Like if something happens, I mean?"

"If something actually happens, it will probably be jello dinosaurs or talking deer or more pi-rats or something like that, not a crime." she mused. "I liked the day that I had animals in the library."

"No more pi-rats! Ew! I found a tail in my closet this morning!" Moshi had refused to divulge the whereabouts of the rest. "What animals showed up at the library? I didn't think they'd be allowed to have library cards."

"Jesters, once, and some wild animals. The dust bunnies are sentient too," Anemone answered, skipping along. "It's usually pretty fun."

"Aww! I am so totally going to have to come to the library! I always thought it was just books!" Trust Fandom to be different!

"If you come on Tuesday, you can help me feed Special Collections," she offered. "It likes cookies, but it's generally a good idea to shut the door before anything comes to eat. You never know what's going to come out of the stacks."

"You make it sound like you have to feed the books! I am so totally going to be there!" Maybe she'd even bring a lunch for them! Radio said other people did it, right?

"So are the things in Special Collections monsters or, like, people?"

Jaina wasn't much feeling like being in class today when she had a visitor in town, but she had one thing to do as a student, and she'd do it. At least it was nice to be outside.

Ben had walked the beat plenty of times with Jacen and the guys from GAG, so he settled into a nice, steady rhythm, keeping his senses alert for anything that might have changed since his run in the morning.

Dinah had brought the coffee again this week, as well as a report on What I Did Last Week in Another Dimension. Hey, always possible Gibbs would want that.

Beka had brought the required baked goods. She was more than familiar with today's class, sommat she wasn't used to at Fandom.

Max settled into a steady animation loop walking pace behind the students. Occasionally, he'd stop to yawn, or scratch his butt, or pick something out of his belly button and eat it.
