There had been a *handwavy* notice for all the students to meet at the shooting range for class today. When the class arrived all the safety gear was laid out for them and several examples of fire arms were laid out on the table.

He also made sure the rules were posted and read off every one to the students. It was clear he was not going to tolerate any foolishness today.

SAFETY RULES:

· TREAT ALL GUNS AS IF THEY WERE LOADED

· KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO FIRE

· BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT’S BEYOND

· ALWAYS WEAR HEARING AND EYE PROTECTION

· NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR DRUGS BEFORE OR WHILE SHOOTING.

· CHECK IN ALL WEAPONS BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE RANGE.

"You violate any of those rules?" Gibbs said giving all the students a hairy eyeball, "Or even point a gun at something other than the target, so help me I'll smack you in the head and throw you in detention so fast it'll make your head spin."

"That being said, what we have here today is a .22 revolver, a 9mm automatic handgun and a sniper rifle. In law enforcement you use these weapons for self-defense or the defense of others. That is the only reason you should draw your gun in the field."

And if anyone from NCIS heard Gibbs say that they'd probably die laughing. Right up to the point where he'd smack their head.

"Now if it comes down between you and your opponent? That should be the only time you should shoot to kill. And when that happens, do not mess around with the target. Aim for the head or chest. Otherwise aim for a non critical part of the body. Knees. Shoulders. They may not walk or use their arms right again but it's better to send some people to jail where they can rot away than to give them the easy way out."

Gibbs then went through the process of loading each gun, firing them and unloading a gun for everyone to see. When this was all done he again read off all of the safety rules. Again.

"Finally: If any of you think that one training session with a gun makes you qualified to carry one and shoot at people? I'll shoot you myself just for the sheer stupidity."

"All right," he said now looking satisfied, "Let's see how good you all are with these."

Jaina had some pretty good experience with firearms by now, but nothing from this planet. She was definitely interested to get her hands on it and try it out.

Ben wasn't going to glee over them--there was a reason he generally chose his lightsaber these days--but he was interested in seeing how the different sniper rifle handled.

Momoko liked this portion of the class. It wasn't the fact that she got to use a gun, it was because she knew how to use a gun! She wasn't the best shot but she could totally show how much she'd improved since the last time Professor Gibbs had seen her shoot!

Well that's what the class is about right?

No messing around with the guns. Gibbs will smack your head straight into detention.

Completely not caring whether the safety gear looked cool or not, Jaina picked the automatic to try out. It was definitely different than firing a blaster, but she wasn't doing too bad. She was able to compensate for the kickback in order to hit the target roundabout where she was aiming, anyway.

Guns weren't a guardian's first weapon, but everyone learned how to use them anyway. They didn't do much damage to a Strigoi, but they were easier to explain carrying around if you ever had to.

She followed the safety measures carefully and managed a respectable score with each of the weapons.

Roy donned the protective gear, smiling as he thought about how there wasn't much point in ear protection after you'd been exposed to the Canary Cry a few times. By now, if he wasn't deaf, he figured he had exceptionally sturdy ears and wasn't going to go deaf.

He was slow, careful, and deliberate with the guns, since they weren't his usual weapon and he wasn't as familiar with them.

Then he proceeded to rack up near-perfect scores with each of them.

After one shot that went a little wide, Ben soon settled into a scarily deadly rhythm with the sniper rifle.

Kids today and their hobbies...

Beka'd used them in different classes by now, so the weapon wasn't as unfamiliar anymore and her aim was decent. That didn't mean she didn't prefer her baton any day.

Momoko chose the 9mm, of course, and got herself set up. She was intent on beating her record from Gun club a few days ago!

The target would totally live to see court, but it was close. And she had really good groupings, if she did think so, herself.

Who better have some jelly doughnuts with them.

And coffee

There'd be jelly doughnuts between them. Not because Beka picked them, but because she gotten a range of different flavours. And some muffins too, Beka liked them.

Who will be supervising you and offering their own advice on firearms.

Or just giving them looks in Vimes' case. He'd stick to a nice crossbow, thank you.

"Problem, Boss?"

"Give me a sword or a crossbow anyday over that thing," Vimes said with a nod toward the guns.

Or a pair of brass knuckles.

Gibbs smirked a little at that. "And I thought I was old school."

"At least then you're aware of all the danger." Unless it was an assassin. But they had rules.

Max didn't ACTUALLY disrupt class, but he spent the whole lecture snickering quietly and making faces at Gibbs.

"Also? Automatic A to any student who shoots Hello Kitty."

"Kidding."

It was totally wrong how eager Momoko had looked when Professor Gibbs said that.

What?! She wouldn't really shoot the bunny-man thing, but he'd arrested her, put her in detention, and totally said he wanted to kidnap her and keep her locked in a closet!

A girl could have dreams, right?

Max grinned and ran to stand in front of the target in one of the lanes.

"I get to shoot back, right?" he asked.

"No." Gibbs replied. "Don't be a dumbass."

So if you want a beer that's always smooth and never bitter...
