Emmett had kept the decor to a tasteful minimum today: the desks had been pushed back to the walls of the classroom and the empty space in the center was filled with colorful (okay, some were glittery) throw pillows for lounging and watching the projection-tv up near the front.

"In the tradition of goof-offs everywhere," he began, "And because some of us apparently had kind of a stressful weekend, we present to you... Movie Day!"

Gabrielle, who was responsible for the presence of large bags of kettle corn, had her best trying-to-pull-a-fast-one-on-you smile on. "It's really a time-honored tradition." Right, because people needed to have a movie day justified to them, ever. "I haven't actually seen this one, but --"

She held up the DVD case, displaying the title Just Look At My Pom-Poms! "I've been told it's pretty good."

Emmett eyed the brightly-colored case. "I've been told you can hide your eyes during the lesbian sex scenes and still appreciate the plot."

Gabrielle eyed Emmett and, in complete seriousness, asked, "Why would you want to hide your eyes . . . never mind. Just go put this in, will you?"

"That's what he said!"

Katchoo leaned back in her chair and gave him a slightly toothy grin. "How you doin', Ears? Seen anything interesting lately?"

Oh sure, make him turn red. "Oh, ha ha. Been talking to Arthur?"

But that had been half the idea! "Maaaaaaaaaaybe." Look, it got her mind off of the weekend. "Or, y'know, I could just be wondering all on my own."

"You could be messing with me too," Merlin countered just a bit sulkily.

"I could," Katchoo conceded. "'cept I think there's a couple of people I can name who'd like you to stay in one piece."

She counted herself there, actually. 'A couple' was conveniently vague around the edges.

"How have you been?" Merlin asked, rolling his eyes only a little bit.

Katchoo shrugged one shoulder carefully. "I've been a hell of a lot worse. You'd know my basis for comparison here. Weekend was . . ." She shook her head. "You get through that okay?"

"I was blue and hairy and kept telling people they were the king of England."

". . . and now I'm sorry I didn't run into you over the weekend."

Maybe if you hadn't been HOLED UP MOPING, Katchoo.

What? She wouldn't have minded being temporary weekend royalty. Although now she was picturing Merlin as some kind of psychedelic Sasquatch with highly developed vocal cords.

"I dunno. I might like you a little better this way, though."

"And I was Welsh!" Merlin added with a bright grin, bumping her with his shoulder. "Are you--alright? Francine mentioned who she turned into."
