History of Medicine - Second Period - Wednesday, 3/10
"Today," Nick started, watching his students pile in, "we'll be dealing with alchemy. Now, as alchemy isn't anything that really requires study, per se, and I'm sure you all have some idea of what it might be about" though he started passing out handouts on the subject, I'd like this to be more of a discussion class."

Discussion
"Alchemy, in all it's forms, is the first sign of refinement for medical use. The first pharmaceuticals. The beginning of chemistry, really. Can you see any remainders from the original art in modern medicine still? If so, what are they and do you think that this is a good thing?"
"The second is the consideration of alchemy as a spiritual or philosophical study. What do you think of Jung's use of alchemical principles? (http://www.gnosis.org/jung_alchemy.htm) Do you think they have some place in modern psychology?"
