Language Classes, Oct. 19

Hello.

Classics: Most of you did very well on your quiz Monday. I was especially impressed with your performances in our conversations. I still need to hold discussions in Ancient Hebrew with

suzotchka,

valehero,

future_visions and

teen_twin.

Today, we will move from Ancient Hebrew into Greek -- a language with which I have a good deal of personal experience. You may begin by studying the Greek alphabet.

Languages of Asia: We will be learning how to discuss time, month, and place in Cantonese Chinese. Here are some resources for your review. Please prepare for a quiz and discussion in Cantonese in class on Monday.

Thomasina arrives early for Classics, eager to go back to studying Greek. She signs in, nods to Dream, takes her seat and settles in to review the alphabet.

Sam signs in and takes her seat. She pulls out a stack of blank index cards, a pen, and three different colors of highlighters. She reads the handout, then begins to make flashcards of the letters of the Greek alphabet.

Draco signs in and begins to write down the Greek alphabet.

"It's all greek to me," Rogue mutters as she signs in. She starts studying the alphabet, eventually coming up with a singsongy version in her head.

[[I am SO reminded of my Initiation-week...I can still sing the damn song, too!]]

Rory signs in and takes her usual seat, opening up her text.

Logan signs in and sits next to Rory, minding his own business.

Rory glances over at Logan, and then abruptly back down at her book.

Anders signs in and starts studying the Greek alphabet, which to his surprise is pretty similar to one that he used to study in elementary school back home, so the assignment is easier than he expected.

Murphy signs in and starts going over the handout as he walks back to his seat.

Jack signs in and starts trying to memorize the alhpabet.

Connor signs in right after his brother and takes a seat.

Hello.

Are you ready for our chat for your test?

"Aye," Connor nods. ~~and apologises for his mun who has been neglecting him~~

Dream folds his arms before he begins addressing Connor in ancient Hebrew.

Excellent.

How do you like class, Mr. MacManus?

Connor stuffs his hands in his pockets.

"I like this class. I enjoy learning different languages." He answers appropriately.

[Good.

What languages do you know?]

Connor rattles off the list. Gaelic. Russian. Spanish. French. Italian. English, of course. Greek. Hebrew.

You know many.

What language do you think in?

Connor blinks. "Depends on who I'm talking to. Mostly English. Sometimes the Gaelic. i think in the language I'm speaking sometimes."

[It often works that way, yes.] *slight smile*

[Do you have any questionhs for me, or about the class?]

"Not that I can think of just now. Wait. What languages do you know?"

Dream smiles.

[All of them. It is ... a gift.

On Earth, I'm most comfortable in English, Italian, Latin, Japanese, Swahili, Arabic and Greek -- though I've been told Greek vocabulary is a bit dated, as I spoke it most many years ago. But my work requires me to understand everything, and I have had much time to study and learn.

The language I speak with my family and closest colleagues is not spoken in this realm.]

Connor nods. "I want to learn as many world languages as my brain can hold."

Dream smiles.

[And I hope you get that wish.

"Thanks," onnor nods and sits, a hand in his hair. he glances at his brother, but Murphy is busy reading something.

Rory signs in, and mentally goes over her Cantonese, biting her lip when she can't remember the exact phrasing.
