The Club Fair - Gym - Friday Afternoon 2/5/10

It was the day of the club fair, so of course Jean was going to be there bright and early to make everything was set up like it should be. What kind of over-achiever would she be without that?

So, the gym was neatly set up and ready for everyone to arrive and look over what new and old clubs there were this semester.

Yeah, Bobby would not normally be caught dead at a club fair of all things. Yet he was here. He was just gonna blame Jean if anyone asked.

"You should so join the hockey team," Dinah said, poking him in one shoulder, then ducking around to talk from his other side. "You'd be a natural."

"Except for how I suck at skating," Bobby said, making a face. Look, it just wasn't natural, having something between him and the ice.

"Think they'd let you skate in your bare feet?" Dinah asked whimsically. "If we're not playing other schools, who's gonna care?"

"I think people might notice if I did that," Bobby pointed out. Still wasn't big on being noticed, no.

"And then?" Dinah gave him a look. "I mean, if you don't wanna play hockey, it's fine. But to worry about what people think...."

"About how I can skate without skates?" Bobby made a face at her. "Kinda hard not to worry about that." It was still sort of ingrained, even after half a year in Fandom.

"Dude. Seriously. What is it you think will happen?" A year and change in Fandom, so Dinah knows better than to ask What's the worst that can happen?

"I dunno, lynch mob maybe? Getting thrown in jail? Oh wait, no, that already happened." Bitter Bobby was bitter.

"Aww, Bobby." Dinah immediately softened her stance, and said in disgust, "People suck sometimes." She shook her head, and sighed. "I won't poke you about it any more... but if you ever want to just kind of out yourself, I'll be right there. Outing me too." She gave him a firm nod. "See if anyone could lynch both of us at once. Ha."

"Thanks," Bobby gave her a slight smile. It had been so easy, telling her about his powers when they'd practically just met... which was maybe part of the reason she was also the last person he'd just told like that. "Probably not, you know. They wouldn't wanna take on a gang and all that."

"Well you know, we're intimidating in leather," Dinah said gravely. "People think twice when they see us on the horizon. Skating across the ice. Walking on water. We rule that way."

"You can walk on water?" Bobby had to ask. He... sort of could. In the sense of making himself a little iceberg to float on.

"I can use my TK to keep me above the surface, and make it look like I am." Dinah grinned. "Cheating, but it's a good effect. And I can mess with water to make waterfalls... I need to do that again." It'd been fun, last time. Time to do things again like that.

"I can freeze water and float on that," Bobby admitted. "Which... is sort of cheating in a different way, I guess. It's harder with salty water though."

"Does salty water freeze?" Dinah asked, trying to remember her physics. "What's the coldest thing you've ever made happen, Bobby?"

"It does if it's cold enough," Bobby confirmed. He fidgeted, hesitating a little before answering the second question. "There was- a thing. With ice trolls, a few months ago." Hey, in for a penny, in for a pound, right?

"Ice trolls?" Dinah said, blinking and looking worried. "Holy ... wow. What happened?" she asked, looking concerned.

"Got hooked up to this big machine that um, basically dialed my powers into overdrive? And I guess they could- sense it, or whatever. Because it summoned them."

Dinah took a moment to just boggle because what to ask about first? Summoning Ice Trolls? Or the overdrive powers? Or... "Someone hooked you up to a big machine? Gah! Wait, was that why it was so chilly around you, and those little ice angel girls loved you so much a month or so ago?"

"Yeah," Bobby admitted. "It took me a while to get things back under control."

"That blows. I'm glad you're better now, but it still blows." Dinah sighed. "And the trolls. Trolls? Trolls. Somehow, that sounds so... Fandom. This didn't happen here and I slept through it, did it?"

"Nah," Bobby shook his head. "Not here. My world." Well, sort of. Inasmuch as Asgard was a part of his world.

"Ahh. Okay." She considered Bobby, then slung an arm around his shoulders. "I think a vacation in the tropics is in order. You can air-condition that to your heart's content."
