Rick had sent an email telling his class to meet in the Danger Shop today. When they arrived, they found a luxurious train carriage and a grinning Rick, dressed in nineteen-thirties clothes, awaiting them.

"Afternoon, kids," he said, gesturing to a changing area. "If you would just take a moment to change into more appropriate clothing, we have a murder to solve."

Once everyone had finished changing, Rick continued. "The year is 1934, you are travelling from Istanbul to Paris by train. One night as you near Belgrade, a snowstorm causes the train to be halted, and in the morning you awaken to discover that the passenger in the compartment next to you has been murdered, and in quite a grisly fashion too. Twelve stab wounds, of varying depths and delivered with both the left and right hands. You have thirteen suspects, and your clues point in so many different directions there's a good chance at least some of them have been planted."

He began passing out sheaves of notes. "Further complicating the matter is the discovery that your victim, far from being innocent, was a fugitive kidnapper and murderer, responsible for five deaths. Five victims who oh-so-coincidentally are connected in one way or other to your suspects."

"The notes I just gave you have all the details of the case, your job is to solve it. You can work by yourself or with others, but I want a murderer and your reasons why of why you think they did it by the end of class."

"Then maybe together we can come up with the right answer."

"I'd like that," she said with a smile. "I find it most frustrating when I can't figure things out. So... who do you think is a most likely suspect?"

"I... don't know. They all seem to be pretty good suspects..."

Helen nodded. "They all have reasons why they should be considered. That's what makes this difficult."

"There has to be some evidence or something. Since it doesn't seem like motive is going to help us narrow things down."

"It seems to me there is too much evidence," Helen said.

[ooc: And the Mun just read the wikipedia and says, "No Fair! ;) ]

"Yeah." Jaime frowned. "It's almost like someone planted some of it? I mean, it points in so many different directions..."

Helen nodded. "Everyone seems implicated and everyone has a motive."

"But only one of them could have done it, right?"

Helen sighed. "That's generally the way it works, I believe, but I confess I can find no way to narrow them down that makes any sense."

"Well..." Jaime frowned... "Maybe there are fingerprints? Or other evidence that hasn't been collected.... DNA? Or, like, blood spatters? Can't you see those with special glasses or something?"

She blinked at him. "Yes, but I don't believe they had those things at the time this is set."

"True," Jaime agreed. "But we do... Right?" Well, probably not...

"Do you?" she said curiously. "I... well... I suppose we could talk to the police department here, but I somehow doubt all of that has been programmed into the Danger Shop."

"True..." Jaime frowned. "I don't suppose you have those glasses things on you?"

Was he serious? He seemed as if he might be. But then, she was quite bad at this.

"I regret that I do not," Helen said. "Do you?"

"No," he sighed. "So much for that plan."

Helen continued to watch him carefully and a bit of a smile crept over her face. "Perhaps a DNA swab kit in your pocket?"

Jaime patted his pockets as if looking for one. "Fresh out," he shrugged helplessly.

"How terribly unprepared of us," Helen said with a sigh.

"I know." Jaime shook his head in disappointment. "I mean, it's not like we don't know what this class is about, right?"

"I am afraid we are great failures," Helen said with mock glumness.

"Which means we don't have any way to solve this one, do we?"

"None that I can see," Helen admitted. "At least I know I'm not alone, though."

"By our powers combined, we're really lame?" Jaime asked teasingly.
