Magic for Dummies | Class Five | Period One
When the students entered today, they would see a long table set up in the front of the classroom, filled with various magical tools.
"Good morning, everyone," Paige said. "I hope you're all well today. Today we're going to talk about some of the traditional tools of magic and then you'll get a chance to try some of them out. The important thing to keep in mind is that in a place like Fandom where there are numerous types of magic systems, what is important to one person's magic may not even be a factor in someone else's magic."
She started at one end of the table and picked up each object as she talked about it.
"One of the most common magical tools, at least in fiction, is the magic wand. In some magical systems, it is the source of a magic user's power. There are theories that you break someone's wand, you can cut off their power supply, but I wouldn't rely on that method to stop an evil magician. Another powerful tool for many magic users is their Book of Shadows, which is essentially a book of spells. This is a replica of the book that has been in my family for generations. Our book protects itself by not allowing evil to touch it and by not being able to leave the houseexcept that one time when I try to photocopy it."
Paige wasn't going to admit in public that gaining control of the book could harm her and her sisters.
"Another important thing to remember is that a lot of every day items are used in most witchcraft. Candles, Crystals, Amulets, and Rings are all popular magic tools that most people won't look at twice. If you have a friend who starts acting very strange and they've recently received a gift of jewelry? It's entirely possible said jewelry is bespelled. Removing it will remove the affect on the wearer and destroying it will generally break whatever curse it holds."
Not that she generally advocated people going around and breaking their friends' jewelery.
"Potions are also a powerful magical tool. Most are made from common herbs that you'll find in any kitchen, though some have special ingredients. We'll talk about potion making a little more in depth next week when we meet in the Danger Shop. For now, let's talk a little about what magic tools you are aware of being used either in your home or here in Fandom that I didn't talk about and then you are all welcome to come and look at these tools."
She was careful to bring in replicas that had no power.

Though he was careful not to touch anything with red stones. That would not end well.
