Charlie waves the advanced students over to a group of desks and chairs, and sits down there himself. "Today I want to hear a little of what you would like to do in this class. What you're interested in and so forth." He smiles encouragingly.

"I'm interested in computers," Kitty says. "I work with hardware and software, and I'd like to incorporate better security measures in the stuff I build."

I am also interested in computers - I think they understand me well enough, but I'd be interested in testing the limits of that.

Archie looks mildly uneasy. "I need to be able to apply mathematical formulas to the problems of navigation and general shipboard operations -- I already know the basics of how to do so, but I think that my calculations would be more accurate and take less time if I could gain a better fundamental grasp of the mathematical concepts behind them."

"Well, I really like coding, so I was hoping that we could do more work with modular arithmetic. And maybe binary math?"
