Horror 101, Monday

It had been an incredibly long two weeks.

Not that Mitchell had suffered from the gremlins this weekend: he hadn't come back until late last night, and for some reason, the creatures - like most Fandom weirdness - had given him a wide berth upon sight.

He wasn't going to complain.

"I know you've all had a rough weekend," he started, "So I'm going to make a deal. If you feel the need to talk about what you've done or what's happened to you in the past couple of days, you can. If you don't, I've got a copy of the worst film ever made and a generous supply of tea and coffee."

A beat.

"Either way, I think we're covering horror well enough."

Another beat.

"And yes, Kate, everyone's encouraged to talk through the film. Come on."

This whole 'focusing on other people's problems' thing was getting a bit desperate on his part.

Snag a cup of tea or coffee and watch Cemetary Snatchers From Beyond Space, that old classic.

And please, talk. Comment to one another. Make things nice and messy. Mitchell would like some merriment around right now ~~to distract himself~~.

Alex wasn't going to share his weekend (mostly because there was another person involved and sharing seemed like misstep) but he'd watch the movie, bad or not and allow himself some relaxation.

About when it became clear the lead actor in the film was never going to lower his cape, Jack got bored enough to nudge Alex and whisper, "The kitty is Rose."

That was the funny part of the weekend. That was all right to talk about.

It took Alex a moment to realize what Jack was telling him (blame the tiredness leftover from the weekend) but once he did, he started laughing quietly.

Oh, Rose was going to be pissed off when she got back to being human shaped. And Alex was going to keep laughing then too.

"At least she might feel better knowing she's not a fluffy dog or something?" Alex said, still grinning.

"She's fierce," Jack said, a hint of pride in his voice. "I think she killed about five or six gremlins yesterday. The problem is, it's hard to convince her to stop hunting."

As she was demonstrating as she wrestled a stray and clearly evil post-it into submission.

"So it seems," Alex said, trying not to laugh too loud. That post it note had obviously done some wrong somewhere. "Good to have her around yesterday since those things were freaking everywhere."

The post-it was pink. Clearly, that was wrong.

"She was handy," he agreed. "Kept at least my end of the hall safe."

"Did you run into too much trouble?"

Alex grinned down at Rose again before turning his attention back to Jack and shrugging. "Some on Saturday. Couldn't get the little shits out of my room for awhile. After that, I holed up mostly."

He flicked his eyes to one person in the class, instinctively before shrugging. "Had some good company and it wasn't like either of us wanted to go out and fight anything. You? You look a little battered."

Jack noticed where Alex's eyes went with something more than casual interest.

"I got a concussion," he said, utterly nonchalant in a way that showed how much he wasn't. "Some of the gremlins caught me off-guard and I fell into a table. Emma walked me to the clinic and they kept me overnight."

Which reminded him of the whole embarrassing episode with her on the way there. Head injuries and feelings and it was all so messy.

He wouldn't talk about it with her in class -- he knew she listened for her name psychically even if it wasn't spoken aloud -- but he could use some perspective on his confession. "It got very strange," he finally said. "Mind going to Caritas sometime to drink some of it off?"

"Don't mind at all. I think it's a good idea." Hey, he was talking to a kindred spirit here. One who'd invited a girl back to his room just because he'd been worried about her. It was weird to think about that in the aftermath but, oddly enough, there wasn't any regret there. "I could use a good night out after all this. When do you wanna go? My schedule's pretty open right now."

"Tonight or Wednesday?" Jack offered, grateful. "Tuesday is rehearsals."

"I think we can shoot for tonight, see if that works," Alex said after a moment. "If not, Wednesday's the backup. I can get with drinking as quickly as possible."

Drinking probably wasn't a good idea with recent head trauma. Jack decided he didn't care, and nodded in agreement.

"I'll come find you tonight if I can."

"I'll make sure I'm there," Alex promised, nodding.

Chloe was still really sore from her adventures on Saturday, but she was currently staring at the movie in a kind of fascinated horror.

She couldn't believe someone had actually made this into a movie.

This was a horrible movie. It made the "special effects" in 1899 films look like masterworks, and Jack should know.

Rose stopped watching and went to quietly hunt invisible balls of dust about 10 minutes in.

Effy was already in the movie day mindset from her earlier class, so this really wasn't so hard for her. Like lounging on a couch and letting her mind wander away from the discomfort of the weekend's injury.

This one was easily, so easily, mockable, and just the sort of ridiculous, mindless crap she could probably do with on a Monday after gremlins.

A bad movie was perfect for today. Emma was going to drink more tea and giggle, and just enjoy herself.

... Okay. Jono couldn't say no to a perfectly terrible old film if his life depended on it. It took him a few moments, but he finally managed to sit up and slouch forward enough to be able to pay attention, somewhat, to what was happening on the screen.

He felt like he'd been run over by a flaming bus. Or at least half the contents of a bookshelf.

Tony clung to a large coffee and watched the movie. He'd seen it before, but he liked watching it. It was so absurdly terrible.
