Magic for Dummies | Class Three | Period One

"Morning, guys," Paige said. "Today we're going to learn about the rules of magic. Of course, these rules vary between different magic systems, but I'll share with you the ones I know and then we'll talk about the rules you may know from your world or the ones you've seen in popular fiction."

Paige walked over to the white board and picked up a marker.

"The biggest rule in my magic system is no personal gain."

She scrawled this on the board. "What does that mean? Well, it means that I can't use my gifts to benefit myself without serious consequences. For example, if I were to, oh, say, conjure up the perfect man to help me relax? That is personal gain. And the consequence of something like that might be unwittingly conjuring his evil twin who manages to wreak havoc on the city before he's discovered."

Hypothetically, of course.

"A well known guideline of Wicca that is prevalent in pop culture is the Rule of Three which essentially states that whatever energy a person puts into the world, positive or negative, will be returned to them threefold."

She wrote 'rule of three' on the whiteboard and then turned to the class.

"So, let's discuss the rules you've observed, heard of or have questions about."
