Study Hall, Wednesday [01/20]

Ziva opened the study hall early again today, but instead of getting onto the computer once the snacks and drinks were set out, she simply sat down at the front of the room with a stack of gun magazines. She'd turned into quite the packrat over the last few months, not having had the time to go through them to see if there was anything she wanted to save, and it was time to fix that now.

The study hall was still open for lunch, but Ziva was not sharing her food, thank you very much.

Jack spent some time in study hall after Defense Against the Dark Arts. He meant to study mathematics, and there was an algebra text open on the table before him. It was a bit less advanced than one who knew the state of the rest of Jack's education might expect -- but Jack's education, like any designed by one man and for one time, had holes in it. Algebra had fallen into one.

The text wasn't holding his attention, though, Not entirely. He kept thinking about the promise of facing his greatest fear in class the next week.

Oooooo...this was better than homework.

Emma was going to try and sneak up behind him to drop her hands over his eyes -- again -- and not say a word.

This time he would have to guess.

Jack knew what Emma's soap smelled like, but he had been thinking about other things and it wasn't as if he quite had vampire senses. She was a chief suspect, but not the only one.

Still, he could tell it wasn't anyone trying to harm him.

"Unhand me, villain," he said playfully.

Emma shook her head, not that he could see it. "Mmmm-mmm."

He reached his own hands up and put them lightly over her wrists. "Should I make you?"

He was still teasing. Flirting, really.

Emma tightened her hold just slightly, and leaned down to put her mouth right by his ear. "I'd like to see you try," she replied quietly, pitching her voice so it would be lower than normal. She was rather sure he'd already guessed, but it would be poor form to drop the game now.

His voice was equally quiet as he answered her, and his pulse came quick and thudding. "And what if I did try?"

He knew who it was. The game was more important.

It was them. The game was usually more important; that was half the fun.

"Then I'd hope you at least try something interesting," she replied. "Although not too interesting. We wouldn't want to disrupt the other hard-working students, now would we?"

"I could just talk to you," he said very softly and deliberately. "I could point out that I can't do much of anything useful seated with you at my back, but if you take your hands off my eyes so I can stand up, we could leave and ..."

There were no words there. Just thoughts. Pictures. Interesting pictures.

... there might have been a blindfold in one or two.

"So. You see."

There was a huff of laughter from behind him as Emma 'tsked' in mock-disapproval.

"Naughty naughty," she scolded, keeping her hands over his eyes so that he couldn't see her blush. "You would abandon your..." Emma leaned over his shoulder to peer at his work. "Algebra so callously?"

"It's not really callous," Jack said, pulling lightly at her wrists in a way that tried to coax them away without doing anything so vulgar as forcing them. "And algera would forgive me. I have it on good faith."

"Are you on such good terms with your algebra that would forgive such an indiscretion?" she teased, letting him mover her hands at last. "Do you often carry on conversations with your textbooks as to what you will and will not be forgiven for?"

"Ceaselessly," he said, beaming up at her smugly. "Don't you?"

"I'm not much one for chatting with inanimate objects," Emma laughed, smiling down at him. "I prefer chatting with people who are a bit more intellectually stimulating and interesting than the published works of some old academic in a research hall."

"Si I beat out an algebra textbook for you?" Jack asked, and tried to swivel to pull her into his lap. "Emma, that may be the best compliment I've recieved in days."

The place seemed rather deserted today, so Emma went willingly into his lap. "That simply must be a fib," she replied, reaching up to toy with his curls. "I can't believe you'd go that long without wilting from lack of proper appreciation."

Jack made a low, pleased noise in his throat and ducked his head to give her better access. "You have that little faith in my ability to sustain myself, do you?"

He was clearly amused.

"I have that much faith that you get bored easily!" she returned. "With that tricksy little brain of yours always needing something to do."

"I can find plenty to do without getting pretty girls or pretty boys to compliment me," Jack insisted. "... not that I object to your presence."

Rather, in fact, the opposite.

"But can you find anything to do that's quite as fun?" she asked archly. "Besides spending time with me, of course."

Humility, thy name is not Emma Frost.

"You," Jack informed her, "are a rather vain girl."

He didn't sound like he minded.

"That doesn't mean I'm wrong," Emma pointed out, rather smug. "You're never bored when I'm around."

Laughing Jack shook his head and brought a hand up to rest on her thigh. "Did you have specific plans to entertain me today? Or are you just going to tell me I should be fascinated to have the great Emma Frost on my lap?"

That was nice, and Emma made a small happy sound. "You're the one that said you couldn't do anything with me at your back," she replied. "So. Now I'm on your lap. Unless you had other plans in mind?"

She was just going to give back to him those oh-so-interesting thoughts he'd shown her earlier. In case he'd forgotten.

"No, no, those can suffice for plans," Jack said, trying to control any physical reaction to the ideas she was being so generous with. "Though doing it in front of Professor David might be a bit of a challenge."

"Well, we could go back to my room to work on your algebra," she suggested innocently. "Beka's at work today, so she won't mind."

"It might be a calmer place to study," Jack offered innocently.

Because Bobby was such a distraction.

"You, me and" -- he sent those thoughts back at her -- "math homework would make for a perfect afternoon. Shall we, Miss Frost?"

"I've got biology homework, too," she offered, giving him a bright smile as she (reluctantly) got off his lap. "So there will be plenty to keep us occupied."

Emma came in after her "Love and Romance" class with Drake, still mentally rolling her eyes at the idea of love transcending death. It was enough to make her want to put in a good Bund movie and watch things explode.

But she still had her biology and statistics assignments to complete, and after being trapped in the dorms all weekend with that freak snowstorm, study hall was sounding rather appealing.

Coming in to study three weeks in a row?

Once was a whim, two was a fluke... three... three meant he really was serious about this studying thing, huh?

So. Here he was, dutifully working through the third chapter of his math text.

She was balancing reading and supervision, so she could certainly be interrupted.

Why can't OCD just write itself sometimes? *facepalm*
