Flight Club (After Comparative Religions, Before JA)

Anakin stands in front of a door to a new shed located just outside of the gym. Inside is a gleamingly new flight simulator, currently programmed for a series of simulations for a Jedi Starfighter.

He turned and addressed the crowd.

"Okay. We have about twenty people signed up for the Flight Club right now, which is great. I've decided that in order to give everyone a chance for some hands-on experience, we'll have both a flight sim and a practical demonstration available every week." He gestured into the shed. "My old teacher has sent us a flight simulator. It's capable of almost unlimited variations in programming. Currently I've set it for the ship I'm most familiar with, the Jedi Starfighter, but if you can get a flight sim of the craft from your home world or dimension, we can upload it as well and learn to fly your ships." He grinned. "I'd rather us crash and burn in the sim than in the real thing. Less paperwork."

He smiled at Harry, Kiki, and Draco. "Today's practical demonstration will be with broomsticks. Draco, Harry, and Kiki have graciously agreed to show us all how to fly on these."

Anakin held up his hand. "One more thing. If you can all sign the sheet and mention your flight experience, especially if you're licensed on your world for your craft of choice, it'll go a long way towards making the insurance people who cover the school happier.

"That's it. Have fun. Don't break my sim. Or yourselves."

[OOC: Feel free to slowplay this--Anakin'll answer all flight sim requests and our three broom instructors are in three different time zones.]

Anakin stood beside the flight sim. He pointed at various parts of the equipment. "Fairly standard," he said. "Stick controls movement, rudders control speed, weapons can be activated here."

He pointed up to the top of the sim. "The computer's also simulating the R2 unit who normally assists in flight. At the prompt, let the computer know if you'd prefer a combat or a straight flight scenario."

[OOC: I have no idea what I'm talking about here. Hop into the fake cockpit, make some stuff up.]

Han decided to give this a try. Jedi starfighters were pretty much like any other snub, but he'd only helped hijack flown a couple.

He scooted himself into the easy chair, and checked the instruments. Standard.

"I'll give her a spin, if you'll fire her up?"

Anakin moved around to the instrument panel. "Sure. Combat or straight flying?"

"Straight flying for now. Maybe combat a little later when I've gotten a feel for her."

An idea crossed Han's mind. "Can you program this baby for a YT-1300? Because if everyone's got some simulator time, Chewie will sure fly easier when we take my lady up."

Anakin punches a few buttons. "Straight flying it is, then. And yeah, I can program it for a YT-1300. It'll be ready next week."

Anakin raised an eyebrow. "You fly angry and break my sim and we're going to have to have words."

Anakin rolled his eyes. "Fine. Just not near the club, okay?" He stepped back to the controls. "Combat or straight flight programming for you?"

Cameron appraoches the flight sim. He seems to be in a very good mood. "Mind if I try it out?"

Anakin smiled back. "Not at all. Jayne just got out." He gestured into the cockpit. "You ever been in one of these before?"

"This is a little different. You'll feel the g's pulling, for one. And the stick's a lot more sensitive. And you don't have to keep feeding it quarters." Anakin gestured around the cockpit. "Right pedal's for brake, left for added acceleration. The stick changes your direction. Button on top gets you weapons, but we won't turn those on for your first time out. Any other questions, ask the computer. It's programmed for voice control. Strap yourself it--it'll be fun, I promise." Anakin approached the computer on the outside of the sim. "I'll give you an easy one."

Aeryn studies the control board before doing anything. "You have a robot that flies with you?"

"Yeah, he normally sits in the back of the craft. Good for emergency maintenance in combat, wiling away the lonely hours in space with because who else will listen to my whining, and double checking the ship's computer." Anakin shrugged. "They're pretty handy planet-side, too."

He watched her study the controls. "Got any questions? The stick on this particular ship is pretty sensitive--it's been giving some beings some trouble."

"What does this button do? Not yet," Aeryn says, and starts up the sim. She gives it a minute, getting a feel for it, remembering the warning about the stick. "You need to get a real one of these here," she decides.

"Tell me about it," Anakin replied. "Unfortunately, they all belong to the Temple. I can probably convince them to let me borrow one as part of a communication and trust exerices between species--they love that kind of thing--but I wouldn't be allowed to keep it." He doesn't pout, but it's close.

Anakin's eyes gleam. "Oh yeah." He waited for Aeryn to get out of the sim, then ushered Duo in. "Strap in, pull the door closed and the sim'll start up. Let me know if you want it programmed for combat or for straight flying and away you go."

Anakin smiled. "Sure thing. One beginner's level sim program coming up. Shut the door to start the sim, and try not to hit the planet, please."
