Library [01-17]

Apparently, Jonothon had gone completely off his bleedin' onion, today. Because he was here. When out there, the weather looked like something directly out of an environmental disaster movie in which skyscrapers wound up buried in snow.

Possibly with wolves. Jono hadn't thought to check for wolves.

Either way, there was a fireplace in the library today, which he absolutely wasn't about to complain about. He'd even shifted the bandages on his chest about slightly, which afforded him just enough heat to keep his hands warm, and they'd be easy enough to straighten out if anyone else proved to be insane enough to wind up in here today, too.

Henry had spent the day before curled up in his apartment reading Colette by candlelight, but there had been a break in the wind and snow in the morning just long enough that he felt like he could risk a run.

The run was fine. The time travel? Well, at least the old guy whose garden he'd ended up in hadn't done anything worse than chuck a rock at him. He was going to have an interesting bruise on his back for weeks. And then there was the really fun part, which was that when he came *back* to Fandom his running clothes had gotten buried in snow. Running for the library, where he'd stashed extra outfits, was both quicker and warmer than trying to dig for what he'd lost.

It was too bad. He liked those running shoes.

Which was why Jono had a boss walking into the office wrapped only in a towel from the gym and trying to look as if this was completely ordinary.

"Chicago," Henry said. "We call this 'August.' I didn't even notice the cold."

He'd had a lot of practice at not blushing.

"Just got locked out after a shower," Henry lied. "Couldn't get anybody's attention in the building. School isn't all that far, and I knew I had clothes and spare keys here."

He glanced down. "I should dress before I freeze to death."

It wasn't the best cover story in the world, no. Henry was relying on his hope that Jono, like most people, wouldn't ask too many questions in the face of sheer weirdness.

That might be harder in Fandom than it was at home.

"It'll be thrilling."

And then he was off into his office for the comfort of things warm and dry.
