There was no being late when Griff had hardly slept the night before - common rooms had that effect. Sure, he'd been to the library before, but it was different to be the only person there.

Excellent.

Rather than doing the smart thing of familiarizing himself with the desk and the systems, Griff went into the stacks and started pulling books. He had reading to do.

Griff is probably buried behind a stack of books at the desk, nose stuck in one.

The Library is closed to non-employees or just to anyone not bearing food.

Toward the end of the day, Griff realized he should get a record of what he was interested in reading and started shuffling the rest off to their proper homes.

I'm off and on all day!

As promised, she came around opening time with two cups of coffee and even a muffin for Griff.

She didn't say anything, just found him and put the breakfast down with a little smile.

"Thanks," he said, smiling a little with the joy of having spent a nice morning with books in spite of any other turmoil in his life.

Henry got to the library just a few minutes before it was scheduled to close. "Hi, I'm Henry DeTamble," he said. "Sorry I wasn't here to say hi earlier. I was unavoidably detained."

And rather sunburned for January. Hmmm.

It was alright, Griff was insanely tan for January - he didn't judge.

"Did you have an appointment?" Griff was trying to clean up and some guy was coming in now. So typical to this whole job thing they'd thrust on him.

Henry blinked and woukld have wondered if he'd somehow gone back to the wrong year, except the library looked almost the same as it had the day before.

"Henry DeTamble," he repeated more slowly and a touch more loudly. "The librarian? I don't normally work Saturdays but I'm trying to meet the rest of the staff. Hi."

"Oh, sorry!" Griff was a little embarrassed not to have known his boss' name, but it wasn't like he'd really been all that thorough in his job acceptance. "I'm Griffin O'Conner - your Saturday aide it seems."

"Griffin, hi," Henry said. "How's it been in here? Busy day? Quiet day? Looks like you were working."

"Really quiet. I've, uh, created most of the work myself, digging into the stacks for stuff." He really hoped that was an okay thing to do now that he'd already done it.

"That's why we have books." From Henry's tone and expression, no, he didn't mind. "Find anything interesting?"

... also, he was kind of nosy.

"I was actually pulling as many traditionally banned books as I could find," he said, looking pleased with himself. "I like reading what people say not to."

"Reading anything good?" she asked before looking around for a place to sit.

"Lots of sex, lots of bad words, lots of things that make you think..." Henry mused as his hand went to his chin. "We should put together a display of those books, unless you want to take them all home yourself."

"I can always snag 'em one at a time," Griff replied, not wanting to seem like the book pack rat he was. "Might be other people in town in need of a little more thinking."

"Found myself a glut of banned books," he said, gesturing at the piles on the desk before picking up the coffee. "Interested?"

"There always are," Henry said, and made a decision. "If you want it, that could be your special project for quiet Saturdays. Build and read your way through a permanent Banned Books display for the front of the library. Interested?"

That had her tip toeing around to peer at the piles.

"Banned by who? When?"

Interested indeed.

"Different groups of people, schools, all different time periods," he explained. "I'm thinking of reading them all just because."

"Absolutely!" Griff could discover and plow through as my banned books as he could find. "It'll give me something for the lulls between people." Or all the time. When there were none.

She grinned.

"Sounds like an idea to me."

She looked the texts over again.

"They seem to be mostly fiction."

"People seem to dislike fiction that makes others think things they don't agree with," Griff said with a little nod. "I figure it can't hurt to think about other things right about now."

"That sounds like a plan," Henry remarked. "Want me to help you close up shop? I'm sure you have better things to do with your weekend than staying at work forever."

"I'd never noticed," she admitted before finally sitting down.

"And I certainly agree with the idea. I used to go over our Marcellus Masters all the time."

When she was frustrated with everything. Learning how to make things better, how to heal, how to fix something, had soothed her.

"Actually, I'm good. I work faster alone and I kind of don't have much to do at all." Other than find a place to sleep since he still wasn't going back to his room.

"I'm not going to make an employee work less," Henry said, seeming inclined to head out himself. "If anything does come up, my cell phone number's on my desk."

For all the good that would do today, yes.

"Sounds like maybe you'd like to read along," he suggested. "There's plenty to choose from if you're interested."

"It would give both of us someone to discuss things with, at the very least," she observed, "and considering the 'banned' content, that's worth something, isn't it?"
