Alysha was attempting to look like a real grown up teacher-person as she sat carefully behind her desk, waiting for all the students to arrive. At least she hadn't ended up teaching art. No matter what her dad had said about her skills with macaroni and glue, Alysha was totally confident that art was not for her. Ethics on the other hand, was pretty much hilarious given the Gales' approach to making the world bend around them. Usually not literally.

She stood up once all the seats were filled. "Good morning, everyone," she said with a tiny smile. "I'm Alysha Gale, and this is Magical Ethics. If you're in the wrong class, you probably should leave now. If you're not awake yet cause it's too damn early, get more coffee next week."

"In this class, we're to talk about the ethics of magical use. Do people who use magic or have innate powers or who can simply do things that others can't have certain obligations to the rest of society? Should magic users be treated differently? Should they have different kinds of rights? Just because you can create water out of thin air, is it your responsibility to do it when people are dying of thirst? If you can fly, is it your responsibility to catch someone falling?"

Alysha raised an eyebrow. "Now from what I know of the school here, I'm guessing a lot of you are going to have different opinions on all this stuff, and that's totally cool. Have different opinions, argue, and actually talk about this shit - stuff. I don't give a crap if you're tactful, but keep it civil or leave. If you leave, come talk to me in my office hours or after class. I'm not reffing anyone dropping their gloves in here." That only happened at home when her cousins got overeager on the hockey rink.

"Right," she surveyed the class, flexing her fingers and barely keeping from retracing the charm on the desk to allow her to hear any whispering in the classroom. "I'm told introductions are traditional on the first day, but whatever. We'll get to all of that. For now, I'd like you all to pair up and talk about what you think about this whole idea. What's ethical magic usage? Can you make a rain of frogs just for kicks? Can you change someone's mind to make things easier for yourself? For your country? Try it out and see where you all disagree. I'll be walking around and listening in. After class if Edmund Pevenise and Tony Foster would stop by to have a chat, I'd appreciate it."

Raven had ideas on ethics and responsibilities, but she waited for a partner before speaking on them.

Andy looked around to the girl sitting nearest him. "Wanna pair up?"

"Certainly," Raven said. "I am Raven; I do not believe we have met."

"Andy," Andy replied with a smile. "I think we have a friend in common though -- Sam Winchester?"

Raven smiled. "Yes, and I have heard your name as well, you have done the radio broadcast with Sam."

Andy's smile widened. "Yep, that's me. So, Magical Ethics. What do you think?"

"I have the power to heal," Raven said, "though as a friend of Sam's and someone who reads the radio notes, you probably know that. I find it impossible to ignore another's suffering when I can relieve it. And I do not think it right to refuse to use the gifts I have been given on someone who needs my aid."

"Yeah, that makes sense to me," Andy said. "My, uh, powers, are a little harder to figure out when I should and shouldn't. It's... well the teacher actually mentioned what I can do in her questions. I can suggest things to people and they do them."

"I am able to do something similar," Raven admitted. "I can also affect emotions, and not long ago I unknowingly forced people around me to feel something they did not. I felt very badly about what I had done once I realized it."

"I used to do that -- well not the feeling thing so much as the making them do something they didn't want to -- when my powers first manifested," Andy admitted. "It's why I do try to use them now because if I don't, I lose control and start suggesting to people when I don't mean to."

Raven's eyes widened. "You are not aware that you are using your powers sometimes?" she asked. "We have that in common then. I made people fall in love with me, but not out of any conscious desire to do so."

Really, someone needed to form a demon blood anonymous chapter in Fandom.

"I haven't done that, but when my powers started working, I did accidentally tell a guy who was harrassing me to go jump in the lake. Which would've been funnier if it hadn't been winter and the lake was iced over."

"Then if you phrase something as a command, even without intending it to be serious, your power may compel someone to obey?" Raven said. "It must be difficult to constantly watch what you say."

"I've got a lot better control over it now," Andy said. "Practice makes perfect and all. But yeah, it was kinda hairy for a while there."

"When did your powers first manifest?" Raven asked. "You were not born with them?"

Andy shook his head. "Apparently they stem from something that happened to me when I was six months old. My powers started manifesting a year or so ago. At least that I noticed. They might've been around before that but not strong enough that I really noticed them."

Raven couldn't help but think of what Sam had told her about his own powers and the demon feeding him blood. "Are you like Sam?" she asked quietly.

"Different powers, but yeah," Andy said just as quietly. "I'm like him."

Raven nodded. "Then I understand your struggle more than you think," she said. "We are not entirely dissimilar."

"Oh?" Andy tilted his head as he regarded her. "You get fed demon blood with your formula too?"

"Not exactly," Raven said. She glanced around the classroom. "This is not a discussion I care to have in public. Perhaps we may speak later?" That would also give her a chance to talk to Sam to make sure Andy could be trusted. She knew they were friends, but needed to be certain.

"Sure," Andy said willingly. "Whenever you want."
