BWI Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Timing had worked in Bruce's favor this morning. After a long overnight flight from Japan, he was really early for the shuttle to Fandom. That was according to plan. This way he'd get to see how people came into the room marked "Fandom High," whether they were nervous, or excited, or annoyed at the very thought of having to go to school.

Those first impressions didn't necessarily mean anything, but Bruce felt they often gave a good insight into how his new classmates would react in a stressful situation. You never knew when that kind of thing might come in handy.

[OOC: OCD is coming up!]

"Thanks," Jacob said, glancing around at the group. "I think they forgot to put out the snacks and drinks. Think we can complain somewhere?"

"There's gotta be a Starbucks around here somewhere," Roy said. He gestured toward Bruce. "I think he was the first one here. Maybe he hid them."

Batman was going to end him at some point, and he was okay with that.

"More likely he just ate them," Jacob said, mostly because that's what he would have done. "Was he covered in crumbs when you got here?"
exspeedydotcom: (chuckle)

"No, but he's sneaky like that," Roy said. He held out one hand to shake. "Roy Harper."

Jacob hesitated, but then he reached out to quickly shake Roy's hand. He let go again almost instantly, hoping Roy wouldn't notice exactly how hot his skin felt. "Jacob Black. I say we make him treat us to whatever edible food we can find around here."
exspeedydotcom: (looking up at you)

Roy noticed, but didn't say anything. "He's rich, so that sounds like a plan to me."

So there were rich kids then. "It sounds like you know him, so maybe you should inform him of the plan."

It was boarding school, what had he expected? "I don't know him. Yet. Uh. I think I might know a future version of him? I'm not actually one hundred percent sure yet. Wow, I sound crazy."

Honestly, he had no clue. His dad could afford it so it couldn't be that fancy.

Jacob stared at Roy. "Um, hate to break it to you, but you really do."

And he wasn't even on drugs. "Sorry, I'm used to a little more weirdness than most people, I guess." Time for a new subject! Jacob looked Native American for a certain value of actor, so... "Can I ask what tribe? I'm Navajo." Roy tilted his head and said in a sardonic tone that said he knew it was obvious: "Adopted."

Sort of obvious, yes. It was possibly that his brain was trying to protect itself as he let himself be distracted all too easily.

"Quileute," Jacob replied. The question wasn't unexpected, even if it'd never really been necessary in La Push. The adopted part, that was surprising. "What did you do to get adopted?"

"My father died when I was two," Roy said. "Forest ranger, forest fire, you can fill in the blanks. But he saved this guy's life first, and no one could find any other family, so." He shrugged.

Jacob grimaced and glanced down. "Yeah, I can. I'm sorry," he said, at least he was smart enough not to ask about Roy's mother. "Where are you from then? Arizona?" he guessed.

"Used to be, yeah." Wait, Roy's backstory got worse! "Raymond, he, uh. He died, and I got adopted by this other guy, Ollie, he lives in Star City, California. Quileutes're Washington state, right?"

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, this guy possibly had worse luck than Jacob did. "Yeah, I'm from La Push, a bit west of Seattle," he clarified. "It's a lot rainier than California." Not that he'd been to California, but anyway. Going 'I'm sorry' again would just be lame and awkward.

[personal profile] exspeedydotcom 2010-01-02 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
He had just horrible luck. "Star City's in NorCal, so it's pretty wet, but I bet it's rainier up there, yeah," he agreed. "I miss the desert sometimes."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Jacob had trouble imagining a desert. He wondered if he'd have a harder time dealing with the heat or easier. "I had a friend who moved from Phoenix to Washington. She kept missing the desert too. I'm not sure if I'd like it."

[personal profile] exspeedydotcom 2010-01-02 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it's a big change," Roy agreed. "Wet and cool versus hot and dry. Plus half of everything can stick you." Ah, his childhood. "It's not for everybody."

"I'm gonna guess it's not going to be my thing," Jacob said. "Not that I'd mind seeing it. I've never really been to the South."
exspeedydotcom: (chuckle)

"You're in Maryland now," Roy pointed out. "I think it counts as the southeast."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2010-01-02 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
"True," he agreed. "Without deserts, but still South and the ocean's on the wrong side. I guess you've got to start somewhere?"

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[personal profile] exspeedydotcom 2010-01-02 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"It's progress," Roy agreed. "Plus here you get the heat with the wet, which I'm told can be...interesting."

"Guess we'll find out soon enough," Jacob said easily. "Hopefully the island won't be too boring. That's one way to make sure your students can't run too far; stick them on an island."
exspeedydotcom: (chuckle)

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[personal profile] exspeedydotcom 2010-01-02 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Roy laughed. "This is true. But if what I've seen so far is any indication, it'll be...interesting."

"Interesting doesn't sound so bad," Jacob decided. "So what did you see to come to that conclusion?"
