Timing had worked in Bruce's favor this morning. After a long overnight flight from Japan, he was really early for the shuttle to Fandom. That was according to plan. This way he'd get to see how people came into the room marked "Fandom High," whether they were nervous, or excited, or annoyed at the very thought of having to go to school.

Those first impressions didn't necessarily mean anything, but Bruce felt they often gave a good insight into how his new classmates would react in a stressful situation. You never knew when that kind of thing might come in handy.

"Well, everywhere is different from boarding school," Bruce said.

Look at that. It was kind of a joke. Only not really, based on what little Bruce knew about this boarding school. It sounded kind of strange.

"I'm sure you'll get used to it quickly, though."

"I'm looking forward to it," Leia said. "Not so much being so far from home, but not having my every move supervised." She didn't think her father would have sent any palace guards to follow her around.

"Is your family really that strict?" Bruce asked. To be fair, he was in a similar situation, only it was his butler who usually supervised him.

"They have this idea in their heads how I should behave," Leia explained. "Like a proper young lady. And they're very over-protective."

"There are worse things than that," Bruce mused. "But still. It's nice that you're getting a little bit of freedom."

"I will hardly know what to do with myself," Leia said. "What about you, were your parents strict?"

Unfortunately, she had no idea his parents were deaaaaad.

"Not very," Bruce said after a moment. He didn't exactly want to work the fact that he was an orphan into every conversation, but it was a pretty direct question. "They died when I was young."

"I'm sorry," Leia said. "My parents died when I was young as well. I was adopted when I was a baby."

"I'm sorry for you, too," Bruce said. If he knew the percentage of students whose parents were dead, he would have been impressed. And depressed. Very depressed. "At least your adopted parents seem to love you. Even if they are over-protective."

"I was very lucky," Leia agreed, nodding. Then, politely trying to shift the topic to something less depressing, she asked, "What do you know about Fandom?"

"Not much. It's a small island, not a large population, but a significant percentage of that population is the students at the school. The school sounds like it has rather unique courses," Bruce said. After a moment he added, "I did my homework."
