BWI Airport, Portalocity Port, Saturday Morning

Timing had worked in Bruce's favor this morning. After a long overnight flight from Japan, he was really early for the shuttle to Fandom. That was according to plan. This way he'd get to see how people came into the room marked "Fandom High," whether they were nervous, or excited, or annoyed at the very thought of having to go to school.

Those first impressions didn't necessarily mean anything, but Bruce felt they often gave a good insight into how his new classmates would react in a stressful situation. You never knew when that kind of thing might come in handy.

[OOC: OCD is coming up!]

"I like to think so, richboy," Deadpool replied smugly. "Not that I wrote it. Waaay before my time. Back in nineteen ought six."

"Back in the day, huh?" Warren worked on a little smile, but it seemed somewhat distracted, to say the least. "You know who I am?"

He didn't really think that he looked too obviously like he was coming from money at the moment, except for the price tag that had invariably been on his coat before he'd bought it and made it his own.

"Well, duh. The blond hair, the trench coat... you're either the Highlander or a mutant."

A beat.

"Or a flasher. If you're a flasher, I'm so out of here."

Warren's eyebrows furrowed slightly and his jaw clenched, at that. He knew that word travelled quickly, especially when it came to things like guys with wings leaping out of windows in New York, but it was still unsettling to hear anyone actually refer to him as a mutant.

"I'm not a flasher," he replied, somewhat lamely. "And I'm not entirely certain who the Highlander is."

Which left the other option wide open, yes.

Very much a mutant! It was fortunate that he'd strapped his wings in to another harness, because they were twitching a little at the direction that this conversation had gone.

"I'd say so. I'm really not the kind of guy to go about lopping the heads off of people."

"Soo... we just gonna sit here talkin' about decapitation while I try to figure out the physics behind how a trench coat can hide a wingspan large enough to support your weight in flight?"

"... They're... very flexible wings."

Awkward. Oh, yeah. Very awkward. Warren glanced at the door of the bus, and then at the guy in the red outfit... thing. "Not really worth talking about, you know?"

And now he was regretting the harness, because he'd have to break the stupid thing in order to make a quick getaway, if need be.

Deadpool rolled his eyes. "Yeah, no one gives a crap there, kid. Well, they might think it was a very elaborate hoax staged by the Catholic church and--oh my baby Nate, do you have a costume yet? Is it that horrible blue one?"

You know, Kurt and Bruce and Roy and the rest had all seemed so normal. And then there was the guy driving the bus...

"I don't have a costume, no. Unless you count the coat." That hot black leather number was only for the promotional shots, because Marvel was mean. "Is that what that is that you're wearing?"

Blue wasn't really Warren's color, anyhow.

Who was special even by Fandom standards.

"I think this is more my---cultural heritage."

A beat.

"And don't you be judging, or I'll make you sit next to that kid where on scholarship. God is he judgy. He makes your X-Buddies seem like Golden Age 'Acceptance for all, but not you because you've been all murdery in the past even though we have Wolverine on the team and that's kinda all he does' seem... not so much like that."

Another beat.

"Or something."

This conversation was starting to make Warren's head spin.

"X-buddies? Wolverine? What?" Error, error, did not compute. "I don't think I'm really in any position to be judgmental, here. But I don't think I know what you're talking about, beyond that."

At least he was honest?

"... I think I've seen something like that on the news?"

Once or twice? Their leather outfits had been hot interesting.

Look, he was a teenager, okay?

"...fail." Deadpool sighed. "Well, I'm sure you'll join them eventually."

For the hot leather outfits. Deadpool, meanwhile, got sexy kevlar vests and military pants.

Mmmmmm.

"That... doesn't really seem like the sort of thing that I'm likely to get wrapped up in," Warren confessed. Because his universe was strange and wrong. "That whole 'humans and mutants' part sounds nice, though."

A bit like a pipe dream. But nice.

Better a turtle dove than a partridge in a pear tree, or at least a guy in pyjamas.

"I think that's what I'm afraid of."

Don't ask how it could be worse, Warren. Don't. You probably don't want to know.

"How could it be worse?"

You asked.
