Study Hall, Oct. 18

Here is the Hall.

Study in it if you wish.

With that, Dream plops himself into a chair and pulls out a notebook, in which he begins to write. He's there if students need him, but no one could describe him as overly attentive.

"Overstepping..? God, Archie, no! You were so good to stay with me! That's twice now you've been my hero." Lana smiles at him and takes his hand. "And you're most welcome for the blanket, it really was the least I could do. And yes, I'm feeling much better today. I had this dream about my parents and -" She blushes a little. "I'm sure it would sound silly to you, but it really made me feel much better."

Archie slides into the seat beside her. "No, tell me. If it made you feel better, I'd love to know what it is."

"Well, at home I used to leave right near the cemetary where my parents are buried. I used to go and visit there graves whenever I was missing them or on my birthday or the anniversary of their death. It made me feel... I don't know, *closer* to them somehow. So the other night I dreamed that I was back there, missing them so much, and I looked up and there they were. They looked just the way they do in one of the pictures I have of them and they were holding hands and smiling. They told me they were okay and that they were always with me no matter where I was." Lana paused, then ducked her head and continued in a small voice, "And they said they were proud of me."

Archie smiles and rubs his thumb over the back of her hand, hoping the mild twinge of envy doesn't show in his face. "From what I know of you so far, they have every right to be."

Lana colors prettily, "Thank you." But she sees... something... cross his face, "Archie? What? For a moment you looked a little..." she struggled to find the right words, "I don't know, sad, maybe? Is everything okay?"

He shakes his head. "It's nothing, really. Awfully selfish of me to think it, anyway."

She squeezes his hand gently, "Please tell me, Archie. I've told you so much and you've been so kind listening to me. Let me listen to you now."

He sighs. "Lana, my parents shipped me off to the Navy because they wouldn't have known what to do with me otherwise. They weren't the most loving of families and I'm well shot of them to be frank, but you . . ."

He pounds on the desk in frustration. "Damn it, it's not fair."

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Lana looks around to make sure Archie hasn't attracted the attention of Dream. She catches his hand, "Sshh... It's okay, Archie. Really." She darts another glance around then stretches over and kisses him quickly on the cheek, stroking his face. "I'm sorry about your family. At least I know that I was loved. Seems to me you're the one whose life isn't fair."

[identity profile] actingltcrumpet.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Archie catches her hand and turns to kiss the palm. "I suppose you could argue that was subjective. Anyhow, if they had never wanted to be rid of me, I might not have ended up in the Navy, and then who knows where I'd be today?"

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
"And we might never have met. And if my parents had lived I might never have left Smallville, and..." She shrugged then looked up at him somberly. "I can't imagine anyone wanting to be rid of you, Archie. You are... just an amazing person - one of the best I've ever known. They're the ones who lose by not knowing you."

Archie laughs softly despite himself, and looks at her again. "You are quite the charmer, you know. Are you free after this, or do you have classes? I never did tell you my news."

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
She smiles back at him, "I have Comparative Religion till seven but I'm free after that. Don't have class till tomorrow at 12:40. And yes, I want to hear your news! Sorry I spoiled that on Sunday."

[identity profile] actingltcrumpet.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
"My fault for bringing it up, I suppose." He winks. "Expect to see me on the steps outside your door after your class tonight."

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2005-10-19 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
She grins back at him, "I'll be waiting. I probably won't be able to concentrate on anything the whole class, though. You distract me terribly, Archie Kennedy!"

[OOC: Want to start a new "waiting for" post and I'll join you there?]
