Applied Science, Monday, 12/07

A lot of basic lab supplies were set out in the science classroom today, and a wide variety of simple handouts sat in stacks around the classroom.

"Free lab today," Tyler announced. "You can play with the supplies, and we have some pages of actual experiments to do. Or call it study hall. Don't make soap, don't blow anything up, don't do anything to the elves" -- he never let his students have any fun -- "and if you say one word about marriage to me that is a detention and don't test me on that."

He'd come to on a raft in the middle of the harbor and had needed to paddle frantically just to get back to the mainland. He had a right to be cranky.

Listen to the thing that is definitely not a lecture, and do experiments. Or just sit and talk. Tyler is having issues caring.

Liir had decided to do things with color this time around. Especially as it also let him play with food items. Nice and familiar.

Dinah figured having been there-- and seeing Mr. Algren tape the whole thing-- was as much amusement as she was going to get out of that mess. Poor Tyler.

So she was not looking at him, because as sympathetic as she was, the urge to hum was strong. She'd just be proceeding with the experiment, being very, very good, thanks.

Ben was totally using Science! to make ice cream.

He could really use it after the weekend. Ahem. Where nothing happened. Actually, there wasn't even a weekend this week. Move along.

After the weirdest weekend she had ever not known she was having until it was over since she'd been to Fandom, Momoko chose an experiment that reminded her of home. Each bubble she sent up calmed her mind and was almost like her friend Miyako was there beside her.

Of course, gentle Miyako would probably be frowning at her deliberately making bubbles in the paths of the wandering elves, but there was only so many times one could hear "jingles bells, ratman smells" sung so offkey.

Ino, who'd had a perfectly ordinary weekend (well, filing paperwork back home, but still pretty normal) had nonetheless listened to the podcasts before coming to class.

So there was Ino, snickering far too much as she doodled out plans that were, in fact, explosive.

What? She hadn't even so much as glanced at a chemical. She figured that was close enough to compliance to count.

Who might be in slightly better shape.

Calvin hadn't realised that there was anything strange going on this weekend.

That's what happened when you had the special relationship with reality that he did.

Jono... was not in better shape, no. Jono had his bandages wound up to bloody near over his eyes, and he was sitting with a bit of a hunch in his shoulders, and he wasn't looking up for damn near anything today. No, not even science.

If you so much as hum Bette Midler at him, that's a detention.

Ghanima was going to lurk in his doorway before going to her own class, waiting for the students to trickle out before she approached him. "We're cranky this morning. Do we need pizza, beer, or to hit the mats?"

He couldn't give her detention, although he was welcome to try.

"Yes," Tyler said without blinking. "I was going to go for a run as soon as I finish up here. Wanna come along?"

He was afraid if he punched anybody, he wouldn't stop.

"I have to teach the children about the wonders of the historical Saint Nicholas first, and the cultural and socio-religious conglomerate known as Christmas," she replied. "But give me an hour and I'll be happy to join you, or you can join us in the Danger Shop."

"I'll give you time to get your Saint Nick on. I have to put the junk away, anyhow," Tyler said, glancing around the lab.

Stupid lab supplies.

"Tell me you embarrassed yourself too?"

Ghanima snorted. "Tyler, you didn't embarrass yourself. No more than anyone else did this weekend."

"I was relatively normal. I was ~~handwavily because my player wrote out the post and forgot to put it up~~ cured of my addiction and there were no more voices in my head, but that's not me anymore than this weekend was actually you."

Tyler smiled at that, albeit grimly. "Only you could have being normal be the weirdest thing that could happen to you," he teased. "I dunno. I didn't even know I knew the words to that song."

"Well, can you sing it now? I'd love to hear an encore," she asked, completely innocently.

Tyler folded his arms and pouted at her. "No."

Ghanima just laughed. "See? I rest my case," she teased. "Clean up the toys, Tyler, and I'll see you in an hour."

Tyler laughed back, and if it wasn't entirely genuine, it wasn't Ghanima's fault. She was trying. He was just ...

Maybe he should have stayed on the boat.

"Yes ma'am. See you soon."

I figured we all needed an easy class today. And he's not joking with the detentions thing, though, OOCly, I'd love for him to be tormented.
