Grissom smirks and raises an eyebrow. "Not a problem. Having a rough week, huh?"

"Well singing ABBA songs beats getting shot. Not by much though. Oooo. Bug candy!"

A twinkle of delight shines in Grissom's eyes. "Would you like to try one? They're excellent, and won't have you serenading the campus with bad Swedish pop songs."

Marty snags a grasshopper and munches on it. "Any idea on how the food causes that kind of reaction? Scientific-wise?"

"I suppose it is possible, after everything I have seen here, that the food included an artificially manufactured toxin that specifically made you sing ABBA, although it is far more likely it was a natural, introduced maliciously or not, toxin, or a plain old allergic reaction. And for some reason, it made you sing ABBA. Have any specific personal associations with ABBA? That might explain it. You could have repressed it, if you don't recall. That ABBA trauma might be floating around your cerebral cortex, and that sandwich was its bus out of town."

"I did date a girl back in middle school who loved ABBA. Alison Ashmore. Dumped my ass for Billy Crowdeck because he had a Flock of Seagulls haircut. Think that might be it?"

"Ah, is there any greater trauma than what women bestow upon us? I can't say for sure, but it is certainly a logical assumption that was the trigger for your sing-a-long yesterday."

"I managed to secure myself a decent lab, considering my position as the head of Sociology. You should stop by the Science wing, Sara... my colleague, has an impressive set-up that could inspire jealousy in almost any man.

What kind of work do you do, Doctor? You teach Quantum Physics, correct? Seems to indicate a background in something other than just the medical field."

I see...I may just have to head over there one of these days. [He smirks a little at Grissom, picking up on the subtext regarding Sidle.]

And my work? Well...er...that's a complicated question, Doctor Grissom. [tries to figure out how to explain things...] I suppose it could best be synopsised as this: I travel in time. And meddle.

"Meddle?" Grissom laughs under his breath. "Forgive my ignorance, I must admit my knowledge in this area is theoretical. Mostly gleaned from Science Fiction, to be honest. If you... meddle, as you say, can't that cause some fairly drastic repercussions?"

[slightly more serious] You're right. But I'm not the only one who meddles, Doctor Grissom. There are plenty of time travellers out there. You might say I meddle things back to the desired state.

Originally, I didn't know. Rose and I thought about settling down, taking a break for a while--that's Rose Tyler, my travelling companion--and the TARDIS set us down here. Lately, I'm beginning to suspect that it's because Fandom is interesting in a temporal sense. It's a multi-dimensional and multi-temporal locus, and that boggles my mind. And I've seen a lot.
