Apparently, there was a holiday tomorrow. From what Jonas had gathered from the books he'd read, it revolved around a lot of food, togetherness and was descended from a shared meal by two very different groups long ago.

Needless to say, Jonas had never celebrated Thanksgiving in the Community. Besides ceremonies for Days of Birth, nothing had really been celebrated so Jonas found these specially singled out days as half a curiosity and half enjoyment.

And, while today wasn't the holiday, Jonas found himself in the cafeteria, idly picking at his food (mashed potatoes had a very strange texture) and paging through a book on various holidays. Christmas would, undoubtedly, be the next thing he looked up that. That holiday just seemed...complicated.

"A quiet week," Leto said. "Although the weekend before last I went on a trip to experience more of the mainland area nearby."

"Didi you go into the city?" Didi asked. "I haven't been in a while, but Baltimore's nice. Very ... authentic."

By which she meant grungy.

"We mostly went driving outside the city," Leto replied. "I will have to make another trip, clearly."

"You should," Didi said. "We only get so much time before we graduate, right?"

She laughed a little at herself. "Which makes me think I should make more trips off the island. I haven't been at all. But what did you see while you were driving?"

"Oh, we stayed at a motel and stopped at diners for food. There were plenty of gas stations where you could by fuel and other necessities." He grinned. "And I learnt how to drive."

"I never have," Didi admitted. "Did you like it?"

[future_sandworm]

"I did," Leto confirmed. "I recommend you to try." He paused. "I could show you if you like, provided that we can find a car."

"You'd be about my favorite person if we could," Didi decided immediately. "I'd ask Jono, but I don't think he drives." City boy, etc.

"Then it's a plan." Leto grinned.

If Didi was to ask Kate about this, she might be warned about his driving.

"Definitely, come find me whenever you're ready," Didi said, still totally and blissfully in the dark about his driving skills. "Do they have cars where you're from?"

[future_sandworm]

"No," Leto replied. "I'm used to flying 'thopters and riding sandworms. And you?"

"Oh, I'm from this world, more or less," Didi said. "So ... no sandworms. Should I be sad?"

[future_sandworm]

"Of course," Leto replied cheerfully. "They are magnificent. The sandworms of Arrakis can be hundreds of meters long."

"You sound like you like them." Didi wasn't quite so certain.

[future_sandworm]

"Why shouldn't I?" He smiled at Didi. "I am Fremen. The Great Makers are a physical embodiment of God to us."

He might not believe this literally, but it was part of the mythology of the desert.

"So the worms are a form of God," Didi repeated, bemused. "That's ... kind of a neat idea."

[future_sandworm]

"Neat?" Leto looked amused, but Didi's reaction was nicer than he expected from people here when mentioning something like that.
