Journalism Class - Tuesday October 18

Spider is sitting at his desk, head in his hands as the cat chases small amphibians happily through the class room. On the screen behind him is the following announcement.

Today's class is to be devoted to working on our project for Parents Weekend. As Beka Valentine was the only one to come up with a suggestion* we'll go with her idea. If we can get a rough idea of what needs to be done and assign responsibilities during this class period, we'll be doing well.

If there's anyone left without partners for the homework or in a group of less than three, please consult with the professor. Please wait until after he finishes his third drink, however.

Edit: Are we doing a project for Parent's Weekend? Because it looks to me like y'all are working on your homework which isn't the same thing. Could I get a class consensus, please?

* That the player saw, anyway. I don't want to take time from your homework, so let's try to square it away this class period if possible. The player has a medical appointment and won't be back till the afternoon. I will check the thread as soon as I get back.

George frowns. "Uh, I think I am, too."

"I think we're supposed to be working on something to show the parents when they come, like a brochure or something. Like Beka suggested," Rory says, biting on the end of her pen.

Angela rereads the message on the screen. "Huh. You're right. I guess I'm just really smoking-positive today."

"So...what do you guys think? Some insanely happy-looking people on a poster or something? I mean, I for one am going to be hiding everything weird about Fandom High from my grandma, so this is a great idea," Rory says, laughing a little.

Angela rolls her eyes. "I can't imagine what my mom is going to think of this place."

She drums her fingers on her table. "Chihaya usually looks pretty happy."

"True," Rory replies, looking at the ceiling as though the answer were up there. "I mean, we could take pictures of a bunch of people looking happy - regardless of whether they're normally like that or not - and then make a presentation to show our parents. I mean," she adds, glancing at Angela, "we could show 'normal student life,' like club meetings and Homecoming and people hanging out together. You and Marty always look happy," she adds, smiling.

"I don't do happy." George says grouchily. "Smiling hurts."

"And, my dear, is why you don't have to be on the poster if you don't want," Rory says cheerily. "We'll get only the irritatingly cheerful people."

"Good. I'll take the pictures."

"Sounds good," Angela says. "I can help write it, or lay it out, or whatever."
