Cafetaria, Friday Lunchtime

Lunchtime with Jak was always roughly the same affair.

Large quantities of food were being scoffed down at a leisurely pace, his feet drifted towards the seat in front of him periodically, and the meat loaf they had on special? Man, he was making a hole in that.

He was in a pretty good mood this week, and it wasn't all the fault of the Beaver Buzz he'd specifically dragged with him into the cafetaria. Nope.

"So," Tony said, in what he hoped was a casual tone, "you and Dinah have been hanging out together a lot."

Wa--aait. He'd had a conversation that started like that before. Jak paused, nodding again. Maybe (more than) a little dubiously. He knew where this was going.

"I suck at this part," Tony muttered under his breath. He scratched the back of his head, then asked, "Are you gonna have to make a political marriage someday?"

...

Jak frowned at him in a way that closely approximated the smiley o.O with just a dash of are you crazy?

Then he slowly shook his head. Noooot that he knew of, no. What?

It had been an issue with the last guy Tony had had this talk with!

"Good!" Tony said. "That always complicates things." Like it was so often an issue. "Now, I dunno if you guys are all exclusive yet, but if she wanted to be, would you be okay with that? Or do you need to keep your options open?"

He was pretty sure he'd had that talk already (although thanks, Priestly, for instigating that) so he shrugged in a way that he hoped implied been there, settled that and nodded. Why the options thing? Dude, he had a girlfriend.

... Well, okay, Keira might be a little weird about it, but, still. Slight hint of deer in headlights in his nodding? Only because of the dubious.

"Good," Tony repeated. "You planning to disappear from the island anytime soon?"

Jak had just come here to have lunch!

... to the cafetaria. Not the island. That would've been awkward.

He shook his head. No, of course not. He was planning to stick around. Tony got another funny look - what, was he planning to just disappear? - before Jak started fiddling with his fork.

"Sorry," Tony said, feeling slightly guilty. "There's been some guys here...." He shook his head. "Look, you seem cool. It's just that Dinah's my best friend and I don't want her to get hurt. If you just stay cool and don't be a dick to her, I won't have to turn you into a toad, 'kay?"

Yeah, he'd heard that part from Priestly before. So the expression on Jak's face evened out a little, nodding along with that sentiment right up until--

...Turn him into a toad?

Jak's eyebrows knotted together dubiously.

Tony lifted a hand and a beverage flew from the cafeteria's drink bin into his hand. Yeah. Check out the wizard and his badass - Tony glanced at the drink - chocolate milk. Right.

(He wasn't actually sure if he could turn Jak into a toad, but he figured that, if necessary, Merlin could probably handle something in the rodent family.)

The threat part done with, Tony said, "We should all hang out sometime."

Considering that Jak could do that if he was loaded up on enough blue eco, the threat might not have come across as-- threateningly as Tony would have liked. He just eyed the milk in Tony's hand and tried to figure out what that had anything to do with toads. Or turning people into them.

So when he nodded to Tony's suggestion, that dubious eyebrow-knitting had not really gone anywhere.

"I'm a wizard," Tony explained, since Jak looked confused. He was going to have to work on being threatening. Not that it was something he needed to do often. "Now, if you'll excuse me," he gestured at his milk, "I need to get a straw."

He was going to have to work on being more badass. Maybe Lee could give him tips.

Yeah, that was... so not badass at all.

Jak made a gesture with his hand that read yeah, sure, go ahead as he tried to puzzle things out. Toad? Turning? Into? Wizard? What?
