Ghanima had had a sense of tingling unease all weekend, like something was scratching behind her eyes, wanting to be seen. A tingling she had pointedly ignored, which had only served to make it so bad, she had taken to bed and not gotten any of the prep for today's class finished.

She wanted no part of the prescience of her brother or father, thank you.

"We're watching a movie today," she said as everyone came in. "There's a handout right over there, and we'll actually discuss Hinduism as a religion next week."

"That's right. You don't fight, do you?" Tahiri remembered. "This hasn't changed your mind, has it?"

"After what happened to me at Parent's Weekend, I have decided I must learn to at least defend myself," Raven said. She still wasn't entirely comfortable with the idea, but she knew it was necessary. "I cannot take a life, I know that, but I cannot be helpless either."

"No," Tahiri agreed. "There are ways to defend yourself without killing. Especially with what you can do. That doesn't necessarily make it easier, but I think you're right, and it's necessary."

"I think those of Azarath would be disappointed with me," Raven said, "but...if they had been the ones attacked by vegetables, my home would have been destroyed...which is entirely ridiculous."

"It's Fandom. We have to revise our standards of ridiculous," Tahiri replied. "Is Azarath that safe, usually, that they don't have to worry about being attacked?"

Questions, questions, questions, Tahiri. Give it a rest.

Raven didn't mind questions!

"Usually Azarath cannot be found unless you know exactly where it lies," Raven said. "And for the most part, only those who dwell there know that. People such as my mother have been brought there for safety, but never anyone who would present a danger."

Except, of course, herself.

Tahiri thought briefly and sarcastically that this meant she'd probably never get invited for a visit. Of course, she was also thinking of something like the Transitory Mists around Hapes or the cluster of black holes around the Maw.

"The screening process must be a pain," she tried to joke.

Raven shrugged and smiled slightly. "They allowed me to remain there," she said.

Tahiri opened her mouth to argue, snapped it shut, and frowned. "You think you'd be dangerous?"

Raven thought of how Juris had tried to kill her within days of her birth. "Some thought I would bring destruction to Azarath," she said. "It is why I left there."

"You are not the only one who must deal with conflict within yourself," Raven said gently. It was probably one of the reasons she had been so drawn to helping Tahiri. She looked around the room. "But this is not the place to speak of it. Perhaps later."

Tahiri glanced around and gave Raven a sheepish smile. "Yeah. Even if it's a movie day, maybe later."

Raven nodded. "Somewhere where there are no squirrels," she said. She wasn't sure exactly how much she would tell Tahiri, but she didn't want it making the radio.

"Definitely," Tahiri agreed with a shaky laugh. "Trade you a grape for some crackers?"

"Of course," Raven said pleasantly, holding out her plate to Tahiri.

Tahiri gave her an almost shy smile and put a few crackers on the plate before taking a grape and popping it into her mouth. "I suppose we should be watching the movie, huh?"

"We will," Tahiri promised. The feeling Raven understood her more than either of them was willing to let on in class had not exactly abated; more the opposite, really.
