Hubris from Revelation: the Social Engineering of Ultimate Truths [Monday, Period 2]

Ghanima had had a sense of tingling unease all weekend, like something was scratching behind her eyes, wanting to be seen. A tingling she had pointedly ignored, which had only served to make it so bad, she had taken to bed and not gotten any of the prep for today's class finished.

She wanted no part of the prescience of her brother or father, thank you.

"We're watching a movie today," she said as everyone came in. "There's a handout right over there, and we'll actually discuss Hinduism as a religion next week."

Tahiri slowly nibbled her way halfway through the cookie before replying, but her mental voice sounded fairly certain.

Six and a half? I'm tired. But a little less stressed.

Ben smiled at her. Good. I was a little worried. What's the next step?

Next step? Facing my fear, before we do anything else, she replied, smiling back at him. And it's looking easier.

Which didn't mean it looked easy. Just less monumental.

Piece of rhyscate, Ben said stoutly, floating another cookie over.

Tahiri snagged the cookie with the Force this time and just took a bite out of it while it hung in midair, instead. Sorry for the stress over this, she told him apologetically.

Ben waved his hand. You're worth a little stress.

Tahiri floated a piece of apple over to him. You must have a pretty broad definition of 'a little,' then.

Ben grinned and made the slice of apple dance. Skywalker.

You know that covers a lot of things, Tahiri told him, sending the half-eaten cookie to dance in the air with the apple slice.

Like my astral hair and tons of modesty? he teased.

And your complete inability to be smug about anything ever. It was amazing how dry you could get a mental voice to sound.

Ben burst out laughing. That too, he admitted.

Tahiri angled the cookie so it was on a collision course with the slice of apple. I thought so.

But breaking a perfectly innocent cookie would be Wrong! It was in the Jedi Code or something, right after not there not being fear.

Ben shot the apple slice into his mouth with a smug smile.

Tahiri rolled her eyes, but only for about half a second before she had to clap her hand over her mouth and smother a giggle.

That poor, fallen cookie.

Ben grinned over at her after he finished swallowing. I got you to laugh!

You did. He was going to get a pulse of gratitude for it, too. You'd better not be expecting a reward for it!

I got my reward, he said, smiling softly.

Dork.

Yes. Yes, he was a dork, but so was Tahiri if the grin on her face in response to that was any indication.

Well, that's all the apple I'm feeding you today, so I hope you enjoyed it.

Yeah. She was a dork too.

I'm not a horse, Ben told her with a smirk. I can get my own apple slices if I wanted.

Good, because I'm not here to feed you, Skywalker, she retorted with a grin.

Are you here to refill my drink? he asked, shaking his glass.

Tahiri's eyes widened in mock horror. You're lucky that's empty, or it'd be all over you right now.

He smirked at her. But then I'd be wet!
