Classical Genre [Tuesday, 1st Period]

Rick was standing on top of his desk today, ineffectively wielding a broom at a large squash. Several large squash actually. And numerous other vegetables.

"I thought I'd save the lecture for next week and have a practical class today, kids," he shouted in a manner that was most definitely manly and authoritative and not at all like a girly shriek. "Just ask yourself what would James Bund do, then since you've all read at least one of his books, do it."

He paused a moment. "Minus the drinking, gambling, and having sex with women you'll never see again after the problem's solved."

Jack was of the opinion that kicking a squash until his shoes were quite ruined was the proper tactic to deploy today. He lifted his pants leg when he was done. "I think it nipped my shin," he said, half in complaint and half in disbelief.

Dinah was TK'ing zucchinis into the walls. Squishing squash. And then staring at Jak.

"I really hope you're not turning into a were-vegetable now."

Jack gave Dinah a filthy look only slightly touched with humor. "A lychenfyto," he said, mangling his Greek. "No. Let's hope not."

Dinah laughed hard enough to have to sit down on the nearest desk, then jumped up as a carrot tried to bite her butt. "HEY! Not cool!" She swatted at it, pulled back her hand, then zapped it into a wall. "Uuuugh. I see Neosporin in our future either way."

"Neosporin, aspirin, and a hot bath," Jack said, kicking away a rogue cherry tomato. "And if I do start sprouting leaves, do put me out of my misery, Dinah."

"Of course! After all options have been exhausted, like putting you in a crisper or something 'til we find a cure," Dinah said, kicking another tomato and grimacing as she got red pulp all over her feet. "Well. It's better than the sewers..."

"I assigned myself first aid duty during the alligators," Jack said, with a grimace only partially directed to the continued tomato onslaught. "Glad of it, too."

"I never loved Tony more than when he magically scrubbly-bubblied me clean after that mess," Dinah shared, then picked up a desk chair, and brought it down on some marauding celery, fronds waving menacingly. Smash! Smash! Smash! Diced and sliced. "This is weird and disturbing and all, but I won't feel like I have the plague afterward."

"Now you're going to have me wondering what kind of diseases you can get from vegetables," Jack said. he hopped up onto a desk to escape some more celery. "Mold?"

"Fungi? Ew." Dinah said, then looked around and held off a small pack of hissing corn with her chair. "You know, maybe a fire hose....? Or maybe that would just make them mad."

"I wonder if we could hook a hose up to boiling water and make stew?" Jack wondered. "And when did potatoes learn to jump?"

Dinah grabbed a pepper with an "Ow!", then flung it into a wall, where it burst open in a blend of seeds and smush. "So. Wrong. Boiling water-- dude, I wish we had a firestarter in the class," she mourned. "That would take them all out at once." She looked up. "Although. We could set off the sprinklers? Wouldn't they get... mushy?"

Jack glanced over to Mr. Castle. "Would James Bund set off the sprinklers?"

His tone suggested he doubted it.

"He'd get a bulldozer," Dinah decided, not at all influenced by her class with Mr. Bond. "But I doubt there's even one on the island." She glanced over at Mr. Castle and raised an eyebrow at Jack. "Maybe herd them?" She started pushing desks and chairs at them, but the shorter ones just ducked underneath and came at her, snarling. "Right. Smush. Smash. Squish!"

Helen sighed and changed her arm into a large knife and proceeded to chop up a number of the threatening squash. Then she wondered what she might be able to cook with them.

THUD THUD SQUISH. THUD THUD SQUISH.

It has a beat, you can dance to it! Dinah was picking up squash and throwing them with telekinesis, hoping that Mr. Castle would be a little safer that way.

"Weirdest. Invasion. Ever."

Robin believed that ol' Jimmy Bund would use whatever was on hand to do the job. So he grabbed two erasers and clapped them together, creating a choking, chalk smoke screen to blind the creatures.

"Bund," Joolushko said as she kicked at a particularly annoying broccoli crown in disgust, "would have some sort of device made specifically for this situation. The man with the letter for a name would have made him something for attacking vegetables and given it to him at the beginning of the story and he would definitely not be doing something like this."

It was a pity none of the vegetables were made of metal. Melting them would be much easier than just trying to squash them.
