Library [11/05]

Sam didn't waste any time in getting things set up for the day, and then he was back at the computer, seeing if searching the internet from Fandom would bring up anything that could help Peter. He was hoping that the lack of e-mail last night meant that Peter was celebrating a political victory for Nathan, but he couldn't shake the feeling that Sylar and Peter were circling closer to each other. If that was going to happen soon, he wanted to be ready for the call for help.

Considering Chuck came in even when there was OCD, him showing up in the library today was in no way a sign of the apocalypse. Really. "You look busy."

"Oh, I'm just--it's nothing," Sam said, minimizing his windows for the moment. "Not looking for women's underwear, if that's what you think," he added with a hint of a smirk.

Priestly had to get to work, but he'd been totally serious yesterday when he'd talked about picking up an ASL book for Jak, so he swung by the library, first.

"I was thinking no such thing," Chuck said. "I know better than to believe what's written on a bathroom wall."

Pfft, why would he admit that he wrote it?

"I just assumed you were looking at porn."

The sound of his name got Sam's attention, and he glanced up. It was still a little jarring to see Priestly sometimes, but in a good way.

"Hey," he said, closing out what he was looking at. "What's up?"

"I do not look at porn in the library," Sam insisted. "Dean used to try to convince me that it was safe, but I know better."

"How is it unsafe?" Chuck asked. "It's not like there's anything to be ashamed about if you get caught. Everybody loves porn."

"I need a book." This was apparently an alien enough concept to Priestly that he forgot to specify what kind.

"There's everything to be ashamed of!" Sam said. "First of all, I'm supposed to be working, not jerking off, and what if someone came in and needed something and was offended by what I was watching? Or, god forbid, what if Dr. Jones saw?"

Sam smirked a little and pointedly looked around. "Well, you're in luck, 'cause we just so happen to have a few books lying around," he said. "Are you looking for a specific book, or were you planning on walking around and seeing what you find?"

Priestly automatically followed Sam's gaze. Right. Library.

"Uh. One of ASL?"

"I'm not paranoid! It's totally realistic to worry about getting caught watching porn when you're watching it somewhere you're not supposed to."

"Worrying about getting caught is half the fun," Chuck said. "Why do you think I have so much sex in public?"

"Are you trying to learn sign language?" Sam said, perking up a little in geekish delight. "I think that's one of not many languages I don't really know at all."

Woah, geeker joy. "It's more for Jak. But, yeah, I mean, it wouldn't do him much good to learn sign language if no one else knows it, so . . . yeah, I guess I am."

"I figured you didn't worry about getting caught," Sam said. "How can you enjoy yourself if you're worrying about getting into trouble?"

"I don't know, it's thrilling, I guess," Chuck said with a shrug. "That one time where I knew you were listening was really hot."

"That's because you knew you were driving me crazy," Sam said. "That gets you off for entirely different reasons."

"That was only a part of it," Chuck said. "Anybody else could have been in the next room and I still would have thought it was hot."

"But, you're right, I wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much if I didn't think I was driving you crazy."

"That's awesome," Sam said, coming out from behind the desk to go to the language section. "And really nice of you, to learn the language for someone else." Peering along the shelves, Sam finally came to the section he was looking for. "It looks like we've got books for beginners and people with more experience. Do you already know any sign language?"

"Uh. I learned the alphabet, like, a million years ago? And I might be able to sign 'I love you'." Priestly shrugged. "And the dude's kinda dating my best friend. So it's kind of a necessity."

"So, beginner lessons it is," Sam said, picking one of the books off of the shelf to flip through it. "You could probably pick out a translation for 'If you hurt her, I'll snap you like a twig' from this."

"See, I knew that making me crazy turned your crank," Sam said. "You don't think that's a little twisted?"

"Compared to the other stuff that gets me off?" Chuck asked. "No, not really."

Priestly grinned. "He's not deaf, so he got that part, I think. Just doesn't talk."

Sam held his hand up. "You know, I don't think I want to know what else gets you off. I'm safer without that knowledge."

"You're just afraid you'll hear something you like too," he said. "God forbid we have something like that in common, y'know, since I'm such a deviant and you're so pure."

"So this is more to help with communication?" Sam asked. "That works too." He closed the book and offered it to Priestly. "Why don't you start with this one? If you need more, the library's not going anywhere, so you can come back."

Priestly nodded. "Sounds reasonable. Thanks, man."

"I don't like having sex if I know people are listening, I can tell you that much," Sam said. "And I doubt you like anything as plain as I do." Or that he'd admit to.

"You just have to promise me you'll show me what you learned when you bring the book back," Sam teased.

Chuck rolled his eyes. "Please, Sam, I like sex any way I can get it. Including missionary position."

Priestly blinked, then smiled. "Yeah, sure. I could be like your teacher." The idea appealed to him.

"Even boring normal sex?" Sam asked. "I don't know, I have a hard time imagining you having boring missionary sex." He paused for a moment. "Not that I ever think about you having sex. That came out wrong."

"Sure you don't," Chuck said, clearly not believing that at all. "For the record, sex with me is never boring. Even in missionary."

"Not boring," Sam said. "Just...you know, not involving handcuffs or food products or something to make it kinky."

"Wow, if you think handcuffs and food are kinky then you're way more naive sexually than I originally thought."

"I know there's other things that are kinkier," Sam said, because he was an inquisitive teenage boy with constant internet access, and sometimes Google just threw these things at you when you searched for topics poorly. "But to the average person, handcuffs are pretty dirty."

"You mean to you handcuffs are pretty dirty. Don't judge the average person like that," he said. "But, like I said, I'm perfectly capable of enjoying vanilla sex. And the other person definitely enjoys it since, well, I'm me."
