Fencing Club

Welcome to tonight's Fencing Club meeting. You should be familiar with the drill by now: protective gear on the left, sparring equipment on the right. Find a partner and spar for a bit, if you wish. I'll be around, if you should need me, after I make some upkeep repairs to my own equipment. Sign the attendance form if you wish to get credit for this meeting. Please keep the bloodshed to a minimum; that's an activity for outside of school.

Alanna comes in, trying to bring her mind back from the clouds.

Jessica signs in.

Archie signs in and makes a mental note to purchase some of his own fencing equipment before next class.

Pair up with someone and duel as much as you'd like. That's what the club's for.

Anakin grabbed a foil from the pile and looked around for someone to spar with. The first being who mentioned "banthabell" was asking for trouble.

Alanna saw someone standing on their own and waved.

Anakin waved back and walked over towards her. "You ready to work or do you need a chance to warm up first?" he asked.

"I'm good. You?"

Anakin grinned. It wasn't a pleasant one. "I've been looking to blow off some steam since I saw the Pirate in front of the dorms yesterday."

He walked towards the mats and set himself in a classic ready position, foil outstretched. He gestured at her with the other hand.

Alanna bowed and swung her foil up to meet his.

Anakin's foil met hers. Clang. He smiled and stepped forward, his foil moving, his eyes watching for weaknesses in her defense.

Defense? The best defense is a good offense. Alanna's foil was a whirl as she launched her foil at Anakin.

That was more like it. Anakin's foil was just as quick as he walked in a circle around her.

And Obi-Wan didn't think he'd get enough practice.

"You're good at this," he finally said after about five minutes of sparring.

"Seven years of training at the Royal Palace. You?" Alanna's foil tried to find a way past Anakin's defense.

Anakin slipped out of the way and regrouped. He began a slightly modified version of a Jedi attack sequence.

"Eight years of lightsaber practice and in-the-field agressive negotiations work."

Alanna shifted the foil to her left hand and with a butterfly sweept locker her foil with Anakin's.

"Nice." Anakin's voice was approving. "Still learning some of the tricks to this weapon--the lightsaber's got a different balance to it." He took a few steps back. "Could you show me that one again?"

Alanna swings the foil back to her right hand. "We practice with these, I usually use a sword. Can you use your left hand, or only your right?"

"I use both." He grinned. "I've been learning this form where you use two 'sabers simultaneously. My old teacher thinks that it's too showy, but I kinda like it."

He stepped closer to Alanna, tossing his foil between his right and left hands. "So I start with it in my right hand, then?"

Alanna nodded. "I hurt my right arm once, for a rather long time. So I learned how to use my left arm instead. And yeah, start with your right." Alanna fixed her own footing and carefully went through the motion of the move she had just done.

Anakin copied her movement. The first one was a little awkward, but after a couple of repititions, he found the balance to it.

"That's neat," he said. "Thanks!"

Alanna nodded. "I like it, it's a usefull move. Usually, I do the same thing from the other side as well. Even if you know it's coming, you still need to have good reflexes to block."

"I'll have to practice that a bit more, definitely." In his head Anakin was already adjusting it for the more flamboyent 'saberplay he was used to.

He swung the foil out and around, trying out some of the movements. If he added it to Form III, right after some of the lunges, oooh...

He looked up. "Sorry. Got caught up in my own thoughts." He ran a hand through his hair, causing it to stick up. "I'm Anakin, by the way. You were running for student government, right?"

Alanna nodded. "For Security Officer. I'm Alanna."

Anakin sketched a quick bow. "It was nice to spar with you, Alanna. And thanks for the lesson. I'll have to return the favor someday."

Alanna bowed in reply. "The pleasure was all mine."

*choosing a sword, Callisto did some warm-up exercises while she waited for someone to spar with*

You don't wish to spar? At least try to keep your discussions out of the way of those who are fighting.

[OOC: Registration is open to anyone at any club meeting. All that's really required to be a member is to sign the sign-in sheet and be willing to spar with somebody else.
