Fencing Club - The Salle, Afternoon After Classes

Despite the week of interruption, come Monday afternoon everything was set up as it always was for Fencing Club.

"A light session today," Edmund told the group. "Pair up and let's see if you remember everything despite the week off."

Dinah gave her a considering look, then grinned. "Why not? Let's see how much trouble we can get into here." Even knowing Emma could read her mind while doing this, Dinah was betting that was too distracting after a while. It'd be interesting to find out if she was right about that.

Emma brought her foil up in a salute, eyes glinting. "Ready when you are, then."

She'd used her telepathy during a fencing lesson before; long ago and far away, to good effect. She just needed to keep it narrowed to Dinah and not the rest of the room, and she'd be fine.

Dinah started circling, and also humming under her breath. Don't try to explain your mind I know what's happening here... Left, then right, and she thought she saw an opening. Dinah lunged, her face lit up. Battle!

Ah yes, the bad part about dealing with other telepaths; pushing past conscious thought to find the unconscious.

Still, Emma didn't need her powers for this. She brought up her blade to block, sliding into a coulé to test Dinah's defenses.

Dinah took a step back, glad they'd been drilling on footwork for the last few weeks, not off-balance yet, but frowning hard as her sword came up to block, then tried to divert Emma's sword upward. The song drifted in and out, not conscious, softening as she considered her next move.

Dégagement, and Emma pressed forward with a fente, intent on pressing her aggressive advantage. She wasn't going to give Tweets time to consider her moves, if she could help it.

Reflexes kicked in at that point, turn-step-engage and Dinah quit thinking temporarily, hearing Arthur's voice in her head, going on about doing this as reflex. Meaning, already knowing what she was supposed to do, like she did with hand-to-hand. For Dinah, that meant kicking out at Emma, trying to herd her sideways, as she brought her sword around, trying to get through her guard.

Emma tsked disapprovingly at the kick -- this was fencing, not kickboxing -- and brought her foil up into a Tierce to block Dinah's assault, spinning to attack in quartata.

If she was lucky, she'd land a hit. And even if she didn't, she was rather sure that her exposed back would be too tempting a target for the little bird to pass up.

To Dinah's mind, it was whatever worked-- but Emma's spin was far, far too tempting to resist, since she knew what a target she presented herself when she did that. Forgetting that this was Emma, and she always had a reason, Dinah slashed forward, mind lit up with glee at the opportunity.

Emma was already moving -- down -- dropping into a slide and using her momentum to try and count coup by smacking her blade against Dinah's shins.

Hey, if the birdie wanted to play rough by kicking, that meant she could cheat too.

That only got the editorial comment of "Ow!" as it connected, and no other protest, because yeah, fair was fair. That was going to bruise. Dinah jumped back, wincing, then brought her sword down and across, aiming for Emma's arm and hoping to knock her blade out of her hands from sheer reach and height, even if the speed wasn't there.

Emma went for a parry that would have gotten her wrists smacked for recklessness back at her old school, contorting her arm and torso to bring the blade around into septime haute after Dinah's first hit, defending her arm and shoulder from any more attacks until she could stagger to her feet.

Still, the foil was still in her hand, and she was up again, waiting for an opening.

"Nuts," was Dinah's breathless comment, because Emma was good, and it was impossible to tell if that was the telepathy, but she suspected not. Also, still ow. Faster than her, okay. More practiced. Well. Go down swinging. Dinah gritted her teeth and went into one of the basic attacks, as fast as she could, hoping Emma would make a mistake.
