Quantum Physics 123: Monday 17 October

[The Doctor is slightly jacked up on coffee.]

Thanks to everyone who turned in their papers last week in such a prompt manner. I appreciate it immensely. You'll get your papers back on Wednesday. So far everyone's doing well enough.

So far we haven't done much with the practical application of time travel. I want to have you do some not-quite hands on work, some that won't involve having you create paradoxes and me having to fix them. It's a very big pain, trust me.

This week we're going to be doing assignments in pairs. If there's an odd number of students, then there can be one group of three. I want you to take a particular event that happened recently at Fandom High and theorise as to different possible outcomes. Be creative, but don't be outrageous. The hard part of this is that you'll have to check things against your partner's work, so I'd like you to work with people that you don't know as well.

Oh, and Mr Harkness, you're not in trouble, but I'd like to talk to you after class.

John nods, agreeing. "Yeah, zombie weekend's kind of a two option thing. Be not eaten or be eaten. Elections?"

"I suppose, but I'm not sure that it's really been long enough since the elections to really get a feel for what's happening in this reality. Hm...you remember the weapons ban/oh-no-the-mutants-and-monsters-are-about-to-kill-us debacle?"

Jessica is then slightly distracted by a beachball with "Smile" written on it bouncing about in the classroom.

"Weapons ban? That works. So, if the weapons ban hadn't be instituted, we either would've had status quo or the recklessness that caused the ban might've escalated and caused injury or even fatal injury."

"Oh, certainly. I'm sure that the liberty that being away from home gives wouldn't have helped the chaos. And, if you'll recall, the administrators were all looking very stressed and walking around as though they had murder on the brain. The school might even have been closed down for a while. Of course, there's also the possibility that everything would have settled down after a while, but I think that's a bit too anticlimatic for a place like Fandom."

John nods thoughtfully. "Yeah, I'd forgotten about the administrators. We could take the ban being instituted and being strictly enforced as an option too. On that option, we might've gotten to the point of concealed weapons on campus and illegal arms selling so students could have some sort of protection and/or way of inflicting harm."
