Tyler watched the students filing in, arms crossed before him and a covered Styrofoam chest with a slight curl of steam rising from it resting on the lab table at the front of the class. When it seemed like everyone who was going to come was there, he started to talk.

"Morning. I am hoping all of you got through the weekend okay. I had visits with some of your friends and relatives; I promise everything I said was true, and most of it was good."

He drew a deep breath, lifting the loose-fitting lid off the chest and watching the steam rise. "All right. Now. Fun part. Dry ice. This is frozen carbon dioxide -- the same stuff that makes soda fizzy. Cool thing about dry ice, it doesn't really want to freeze on this planet, so if you force it to, it's continuously evaporating and turning into a gas." With gloved hands, he reached into the chest and brought out a kernel of the ice, then dropped it into a black plastic film can. A few seconds later, the lid of the canister flew off, narrowly missing the first row of chairs. Tyler smirked, then continued his lecture about the properties and uses of dry ice and the science behind it.

"For your lab segment today, I'm just going to let you play with this stuff." He started handing out one-pound chunks in small trays, placing them in front of each student alongside some other supplies they might want to use to test the ice. A light fog from the ice's evaporation filled the room. "Wear lab gloves unless a cold burn sounds like fun to you. Here is a handout with some ideas to get you started. I like the comet myself."

Once everyone had some ice, he waited at the back of the classroom. "Go to it. I'm around."

Liir was like a zombie today. Words were written on the page into his notebook, but they came in spurts and jolts as he remembered he should be taking notes.

Ben hadn't exactly slept ~~at all~~ well after his father left, but he wasn't about to let that slow him down in the amount of words he was writing down.

Drowning himself in schoolwork? Yes please.

Dinah would love some distraction that didn't involve thinking too hard about some... stuff. Yeah. Lots of F/X and movie fog would help.

Experiment with the dry ice.

Ben set up a tiny volcano and smiled down at the smoke as it escaped.

The comet involved smashing things with a hammer first. Dinah was so there. SMACK!

"Hey, leave some smashing for the rest of us."

Dinah looked up and blew her bangs out of her face, then smiled crookedly at Priestly. "Grab a hammer? Can I guess how the rest of your weekend went?"

"Guess away," Priestly said. And, yeah, he grabbed a hammer. Mmmm, sciencey therapy.

"You're still here," Dinah offered as some encouragement, then had to smile, because she'd been worried about that. "Yay?" SMASH!

"Through Christmas, at least." Priestly shrugged. "I guess it coulda been worse?"

Tyler was watching the class intently. He didn't need anyone to end up hurting themselves, not today.

Now that Jubilee had left, Jono was right back to doing his usual, 'quiet and standing on the edges, but totally willing to be helpful if needed' thing.

The mist that rose from the dry ice was striking a bit of a chord with him, apparently.

Susie had only hit him a half-dozen times during the entire weekend, so Calvin was in a fairly good mood as he looked around for anyone who had questions for him.

I'm starting a few new work things today, so I may be slow until tonight. Also "Tyler + the TAs" would be a very lame name for a rock band.

Oh, I dunno. I'd totally buy their CDs. :D
