Study Hall - Monday, October 17th

Sarah sits on the floor of the study hall, playing with a bunch of black lab puppies.

No, really.

And no, she's not teaching them how to kill. Although she is making them sniff a toaster and then sniff everybody who comes into the room.

Today is obviously not a low-paranoia day for her.

Phoebe moved to where she could squat down next to Cle's chair to look him in the eye.

"Can I stay with you tonight?"

Cole pulled Phoebe up into his lap. "Of course you can," he said gruffly, wrapping his arms tight around her. "You don't even have to ask. And nothing's going to hurt you while you're with me, I promise."

Phoebe held him and lay her head on his shoulder. "Thank you."

Cole stroked her hair. "No one's going to hurt you, Phoebe," he said. "Just let me protect you."

Phoebe felt tears in her eyes. "I'm just so scared, Cole. Who could hate me enough to do something like this?"

"Don't cry," Cole said softly, brushing the tears away. "I don't know who is doing this, but I won't let them hurt you, I promise."

Phoebe nodded, looking into Cole's face. "Be careful with what you promise, Cole. I don't want you to get into trouble."

"I don't care what kind of trouble I get in," Cole said earnestly. "I'm not going to let anyone hurt you."

Phoebe sighs softly, relaxing against him. "Stop saying that or you'll have a new roommate to contend with."

He grinned at her. "I can live with that."

Phoebe smiled back, wrapping her arms around him.

"Somehow, I doubt your roommate could."

"There are plenty of empty rooms," Cole said. "He can find another. Or we could. Linds does nothing but bitch so I'm sure he'd love a room to himself."

Phoebe pulled back and looked at him. "You'd really do that for me...move?"

Cole cocked his head and looked at her. "Yeah, to be with you I would."

Phoebe looks like she's thinking very seriously about something.

"What's on your mind?" Cole asked, nuzzling her neck, not caring who might witness the public display of affection.

Phoebe smiles when he does that. "Imagining what it would be like."

"Safe. Secure." He grinned mischievously. "Fun."

Phoebe nodded and then leaned down to nuzzle him.

Cole ran his hand up and down her back. "So what do you say? Want to give it a try?"

Phoebe looks at him. "Do you really think they'd let us?"

He shrugged. "There are already co-ed rooms, so I don't see why not."

Phoebe worries her bottom lip. "Find out for sure before I make any decision?"

"All right," Cole said, kissing the top of her head. "I"ll check with the housing office."

Phoebe nodded, feeling a little more secure than she had a few minutes ago.
