Humorous History: Friday, Period 1, Class 4

When everyone was in the room, Jim walked over to close the door. "Morning. I hope you all had fun with your teddy bears this week. If you haven't handwavily gotten a picture of them doing something cool yet, make sure you do that before the end of the day. It's a very serious assignment and could have a huge impact on your grade." Jim wasn't sure he could say that any more sarcastically.

"Anyway, this week we're going to be watching a movie. Amadeus is the story of the great composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, his constant childlike behavior, public displays of a really crude sense of humor, and his hacky, evil, bitter, murderous rival Antonio Salieri. The only problem is, most of what happens in the movie is completely untrue. And that's fine; it's based on a play that was only loosely based on Mozart's life and neither version of Amadeus really cared about historical accuracy. The problem - and the reason why it's funny - is that a lot of people try to take it as the truth."

"Here's something I got from a completely reputable source on the internet," Jim said, handing out a handout printed from a Geocities page. "It goes into a little more detail about what's wrong than I'm going to because it's movie time." Jim flicked the lights off and turned to the camera guy. "No bootlegging."

Pfft. Like Bobby took notes during movie days when the movies were historically accurate. He did have to keep poking himself to stay awake, though. This always happened on movie days; the lights went out and he got sleepy. Didn't seem to matter whether the movie in question was interesting or not, he was bound to doze off at some point.

Oh, hey, movie day. Tara rested her head on her arms and let herself be absorbed in the story. The teddy stood guard in a corner of her desk.

Rose's head was on her hands as she tried to stay awake for the movie.

The teddy bear was sleeping too but in her bag.

Hannibal's teddy bear was sitting on his desk, still looking like a samurai and watching the movie intently. Hannibal was half watching and relying on the teddy bear to tell him what it was about.

Priestly used his teddy bear -- decked out in a faux-fur lined coat from his handwavey arctic explorations of the diner freezer -- as a chin rest.

The music in this thing was pretty good. He wondered how it would sound with an electric guitar.

Jennifer was a little preoccupied today. But she half paid attention to the movie, and half futzed with her little bear. It was still in the little mountaineering outfit she'd gotten for it.

Layla's bear was sitting on the edge of his desk. It was dressed in PJ's and had bubble wrap covering one foot and appeared to be eating a pudding cup.

I have to say I find it really, really amusing that the link goes to geocities mostly because in just a few short weeks the whole thing is getting shut down.

Okay, so I'm easily amused...
