Fandom vs. The Real World- 2nd Period- Class #4

When the students got to class today, they'd find a table at the front of the room piled with bags of supplies. Looked like someone had an activity day!

"There is something that I've never quite understood that seems to happen all the time here, but I've never once ran into it outside of Fandom, and I definitely never saw it before I first came here," Aeryn began. Ignore that she'd been raised in an absolutely no fun military environment. "Today we're going to talk about the surprise party."

Yes, there was seriously a class on this.

"I think most of you may know about this already, but whenever there is a special event, like a birthday, or celebrating... anything, really, there is a party for it. Which is fine, that makes sense. For some reason, the room tends to be decorated in balloons and paper hanging from the ceiling, and glitter. There is always glitter, and I believe this may be symbolic of being able to take the celebration with you even after it's done." Oh, you come up with better reasoning for glitter, especially when you'd still be finding it for weeks afterwards. "People bring presents for the birthday male or female to open, despite the fact that surviving a year is not much of a personal accomplishment for most people, but they want to honor the person they're there for. Also, there is cake, and maybe ice cream.

"A surprise party has an added element to it, wherein everyone knows about the party except for the person that it is for. Everyone else arrives before them, and when it looks like they are coming, people hide behind and under objects and turn out the lights. When the person finally gets there, everyone jumps out from behind things and yells 'Surprise!' I would think the fact that there is a party at all would be enough of a surprise, but apparently not. Then everyone gets to talk to the person whose party it is, which may be embarrassing for them if they truly weren't expecting it and dressed inappropriately, but the person is not expected to clean up afterwards, so they have that going for them.

"Today we're going to decorate for a party," Aeryn went on. "I have supplies here, including balloons and paper-" They're called streamers, Aeryn. "-and I want you all to work together to fix the room up. Once you're done with that, there is cake."

Having just been to Tahiri's party the Friday before, Raven understood decorations and cake. And definitely ice cream. Prior to coming to Fandom, she'd never been to a party, let alone a surprise one, and she found the ritual interesting.

Azula raised her eyebrows. What was so puzzling about surprise parties? It was a party that surprised the celebrant. How was that confusing?

Parties were one thing that translated to Adora's world. The hiding and the surprise part were wholly new, and a little worrisome - what if someone got hurt?

Illyria... would just be over here having essentially the same opinion as Aeryn. And squelching down the unwanted memory of a ghost wearing one of those party hats and herself trying to shake the hat instead of its hand.

Yakko was trying to hide a hot air balloon under his desk. He had heard "balloon" and made an incorrect guess, which he realized pretty quickly..

That... was a lot of glitter she was expecting them to use. It was also very pink. At least, the tub that he was looking at was.

Right now, Chuck was going for balloons, and hoping he had the breath to actually blow them up.

George had finally gotten the glitter out of his hair from Friday so he was trying to stay far, far away from it.

The streamers on the other hand, those looked cool, and he was starting to attempt to design a complicated net across the ceiling.

Because he's a dork.

Raven naturally drifted toward the colors at the darker end of the spectrum and was playing with twisting black and red streamers. It's a party, Raven, not a funeral.

Azula avoided the glitter and collected all the red and gold party supplies. She decorated a corner, placing the red and gold streamers, the red balloons and red napkins together.

When Azula was nearly finished her corner looked like someone threw red paint over it with only the gold streamers as relief. Then she made a black flame cut out and glued the cut out on one of the red streamers.

...at least she was loyal to her country?

Adora was enjoying throwing the crepe paper around and pinning it to walls like the walls were the sides of a cake!

Beka found herself playing with the glitter. It was sparkly and now she'd a chance to see it when it wasn't in someone's hair. She soon found out that it stuck to everything.

Except Pounce.

Pounce was glitter immune and he was going to sit over there, a safe glitter distance away.

Mat stayed far, far away from the glitter, and had managed to completely twist the streamers into an unusable mess. "Blood and ashes," he cursed.

The vial of red glitter exploded in her face -- and hair, and down the front of her suit -- when she poked at the lid. Illyria would think it was Fred trying to get even if there were a Fred anymore. Anywhere. Since there wasn't, she just coughed and looked Not Pleased.

At least it coordinated with her armor?

Yakko blew a balloon up very large. Then he put some glitter in it while managing to keep it from deflating. Then he climbed into the balloon and tied it closed. (He was very flexible.) And then he pulled a pin out of his pocket and poked the balloon.

It was one way of distributing glitter.

Morgana went for the balloons first, trying to get air into them without much success. Surely, there was a step here she was missing.
