Newspaper Staff Meeting; Friday, after classes. Journalism Room [ 09/18 ].

Cal Stephanides was absolutely tickled, brimming with a sort of boyish pride, as he got things set up for the meeting today. Their first one after what he felt was an incredibly successful first paper. He'd even printed out about a hundred extra just to have in the journalism room today. It was a paper! With his name as the editor! It was exciting!

And he might have been sneaking peeks at the kitten picture to melt over it every so often. What? He liked kittens.

There was, of course, donuts and coffee as well as a considerable representation made for tea (of course!)

"We did it!" Cal announced. "First edition without anything blowing up or going hideously wrong! Pat yourself on the back; pat someone else on the back, grab a caffeinated drink of your preference and let's do some chatting about how it turned out and how we can make it even better still."

"I think it's wonderful," she looked up with a smile. "The kitten picture is so very cute."

"I feel bad," Cal admitted, laughing as he sheepishly ducked his head. "I think the kitten's my favorite part."

"Well, look at it!" she exclaimed, giggling and shaking the paper a little. "Who could possibly resist such a cute little face?"

Cal laughed, although, really, that was just about as cute as the kitten.

Just about.

It was a freaking adorable kitten.

"So that's a feature we're keeping."

"Hmm...maybe..." Eleanor smiled a touch wickedly. "Maybe we could use pictures of students from when they've turned into adorable kittens?"

Eleanor had no idea what she was suggesting, really. Either it would turn into a very popular feature indeed or result in the mass murdering of the entire newspaper staff.

....why was this girl so perfect? Seriously. A comment like that only made Cal wonder if perhaps she was...

He matched Eleanor's smile. "Now, why would we do a think like that? I'd never even imagine..."

It should be noted that Cal had a very terrible masochistic streak.

"Oh, I don't know. Because it would show that the newspaper is committed to its readership?" She smirked further. "That, and I think it would be incredibly fun."

She laughed lightly. "I'm sure Ellie has some photographs of me somewhere from when I was a kitten. I was a rather cute kitten," she added with a note of surety.

"Oh, there's no doubt about that," Cal found himself saying, again not really intending to, but rolling with it anyway. There were benefits to being a natural actor. "I've never turned into anything as cute as a kitten, myself."

She blushed slightly at that, but continued on. "Not a kitten?" she asked, amused. "Then pray tell, what did you turn into?"

"A hyena," Cal told her, his face twisting a little with distaste. "Everyone gets cute puppies and kittens, and I get a hyena."

Cal faltered for a moment. Was there really a good way to answer that? Somehow, he didn't think oh, well, they're nature's natural hermaphrodites or I guess I'm a dirty scavenger, too would inspire the desired effect.

"I guess...it's just...a reflection of uniqueness?" he tried.

Cal tried not to show his relief that she went with the reason, even if she was just humoring him. He chuckled a little. "I mean, what else could it be, right?"
