Computer Lab, Thursday morning

Dinah wasn't typing away phrases this time. She was surfing the 'net. And looking for free downloads and music. And trying to think of anything else to show Jak that she hadn't already.

With that Killers song blasting away, too.

"Yeah, I do. That's why we've got a webcam." And so she could check that Helena wasn't too bruised, and Barbara could see that Dinah wasn't too bruised. "But I'm glad they're keeping in touch." She grinned at him. "Have you told them much about this place yet?"

"I suppose. Brenda asks a lot of interesting questions, and Paco mostly wants to know about the girls." There was absolutely no reason for Jaime to blush slightly at that. Which meant, of course, that he wasn't. Seriously.

"Sooo, Paco doesn't have a girlfriend?" Dinah checked, eyebrows up as she smirked a little at the blush. "Tell Brenda that little blue guys stole my friend Leto's shirts. Maybe she'll come visit."

"Paco says he doesn't have a girlfriend," Jaime smirked in amusement. "But..." he waved at the email exchange, "they bicker like an old married couple. And while both of them keep pretending that nothing's going on..." He shook his head.

Which didn't stop Paco from asking about 'all the hot chicks'. Some things apparently never changed.

"Get a room!" Dinah told the computer screen, then snickered at Jaime. "It'll change after the first invasion. Well, maybe not. Does he like girls who go beat things up? 'Cause a ton of us will be doing that."

Jaime liked girls who beat things up. But he certainly wasn't flushing slightly at that thought. Or shaking his head to clear it.

"Brenda studies judo, and she beats him up on a regular basis. Which," he chuckled, "probably explains the email thing. She hasn't come up with a way to throw him on his butt over the internet when he's being stupid." Jaime's tone suggested that it was somehow inevitable that Brenda would find a way to do it. Because that's how Brenda was.

"I want to meet her sometime," Dinah said with a grin. "We could do lunch. Go shopping. Beat people up." She wrinkled her nose at Jaime. "Don't tell Paco."

"If she manages to visit I'll be sure to let her know you're a kindred spirit," Jaime laughed. "And I might tell Paco after the fact, just to watch his head explode."

"Here to help blow things up, 24-7," Dinah assured him, and spun her chair around with a grin. "How're your classes going?"

"Pretty good so far," Jaime decided. "But it's really weird to not be in class every day. I feel like I've got way too much free time."

"Yeah, I know. I have today and tomorrow completely free!... aside from the training I'm doing, and some running, and helping Jak with computer stuff," Dinah finished, then grinned. "But hey, I think we can teach ourselves, right?"

"I suppose that's true. But there's only so long I can sit around reading books on tactics and psychology and whatever else I'm interested in this week."

Dinah tilted her head, thinking. "You could get a job? Or join the play cast or crew. Ooooor... did you join any of the clubs?" She grinned. "I stop by all the Reserves stuff, and I have a job." She looked thoughtful. "Or you could explore the Preserve, see if you could find some teal deer."

"I might get a job... Even my parents wouldn't object considering how little classwork there is here... I don't know about exploring, though." Jaime faked a shudder. "That sounds like it might involve nature."

[Running home, back in 45 minutes or so!]

Dinah snickered, then asked, "Have you met Blysse and Blind Seer yet? They showed me around the Preserve once, so I could see what it was all about. I had fun, but it's so not my native habitat."

"Not yet," Jaime shook his head. "But I'm sure it'd be scary. There are trees out there. I'm from El Paso."

Dinah choked, then laughed. "Hey, New Gotham girl here. Even we have trees. In little manageable pockets." She grinned at him and teased, "Does the water intimidate you too?"

"Nah. We have pools and stuff. And I've been to the beach a couple of times." Mostly on heroing gigs, but whatever.

"Cool. There's a pool in the basement of the dorm," she told him. "Which is nice. Since in about another two weeks it'll be too cold to swim." She looked thoughtful. "I need to get down there more often. I always say that, and I always forget." The last time she was down there was during hormone week, when she needed it.

"Well, if you decide to go let me know? Or maybe we could go together sometime."

Wait... that probably came out wrong. Fortunately, Jaime had enough experience with sticking his foot in his mouth to know that objecting that he didn't mean it would only make things worse. So he just shut his mouth suddenly.

Wait. Didn't he have a girlfriend? Yes, he did, so that couldn't sound like what it sounded like. Right. Yeah.

"...sure," Dinah said gamely, recovering from her own internal flail. "That way I can show you where it is. And the clothes-stealing washers on the first floor. If you haven't had to deal with them already."

"And if someone else is going you're more likely to go yourself, yeah?"

Then he frowned. "Wait... clothe-stealing washers?"

"True!" Dinah chirped, cheering up, then turning red. "Uh. They went on strike, my first week here. They were stealing everyone's clothes, not just mine. Poor--" Hot. "-- Mr. Algren ended up in his underwear in front of the entire school during assembly, because his clothes just vanished."

"... that... must have been awkward." Jaime was torn between laughing and grimacing because on the one hand: funny, on the other hand: it could theoretically happen to him.

Fortunately he had the Scarab, which could solve the clothing problem. If he could figure out how to explain it.

"Yeah, I was lucky Arthur... showed up." AHEM. "Anyway! Yeah. The pool. Maybe this weekend, or sometime next week?"
