You all know the routine by now. Sign the roll and grab a cup of coffee. Also, please note that Wednesday's class is cancelled--I will be leaving to testify in several court cases. Classes will resume again on Monday. In lieu of class, I would like a five-page paper written, on the topic of your choice and how it relates to geology. It will count as a test grade and could probably help some of you.

Now today, we will be discussing the method known as carbon dating. Today's lab will consist of you and your partner dating the samples I've placed on each table. You may leave when you are finished.

Rose wanders into class, grabs some coffee and signs the roll sheet. She thinks to herself, We have to write a paper? Bloody hell.

Thomasina arrives for class on time, signs the roll sheet and takes her seat next to Rose. She is no longer considers the idea of writing papers for her lessons a foreign one. In fact, it gives her a pleasantly adult thrill to write something akin to treatises Septimus's periodicals contain. That does not mean, however, that she is any more excited at the prospect of more work for Geology than she would be any other day. She turns to her laboratory partner. Hello, Rose. Shall we get this over with?

A paper, he can do. He'd rather write a paper than come to class. He likes writing papers.

Geology paper, geology paper... oooh, there's lots of neat geological analysis software out there, even in this era... I could totally do a paper about that! Yeah!

Roy takes a cup of coffee and adds a little less sugar than normal (he's trying to see if he can eventually drink coffee straight), signs in, and sits down to do the project of the day with Han.
