Sex Thru The Ages, 9/15

When the students filed into the classroom today, they might notice that one of their teachers had his face buried in one hand. It was entirely possible that this particular teacher was not going to remove his hand from his face for some time. Why?

Because he was Algren, and he was teaching a class on the history of sex with Kirk. Duh.

The the hand that wasn't covering his face, he was waving vaguely toward a packet of very NWS pictures as though perhaps the students should each come up and take one, now.

"Please. Come up and take one." See?

Jim, on the other hand, was completely pleased with himself. This was starting to be a bit of a trend, wasn't it?

"Today we're talking about India and their attitudes on sex in the past. Now, I'm sure most of us have heard about the Kama Sutra--" He said, glancing over at Algren to see if he was going to keep covering his face. "Which gives us an insight into the more relaxed ideas of sexuality. Of course, monogamy was still the norm for the vast majority of people, but mutual pleasure in sex was always the goal."

Yes, Algren was going to keep covering his face. He was going to keep covering his face until they got around to explaining the sexual mores of the Victorian era, thank you very much.

"Art in ancient India, as you can probably tell from the handouts I asked you to take before the lecture began, quite often depicted sexual scenes, nudity, and romance, often portraying images of the Asparases, or female cloud and water spirits, taking the same role as the nymphs and sirens of European and Arabic mythos. This imagery reminded married people that it was their duty to participate in romance, as a part of Dharma, or a spiritual righteous path."

"Think of the Kama Sutra as a guide on how to please your partner," Jim continued. "Not a bad way to be religious, right?"

If that was the case, Jim was a saint.

"So, to get you all in the mindset of spiritual enlightenment, you'll be attempting to make your own statues out of Play Doh. Isn't that right, Nathan?"

Algren might have muttered something that sounded vaguely along the lines of 'yes, make brightly-colored stylized sculpture soft porn. Please, show it to Jim and not to me.' The hand was now over his eyes, instead of his entire face. This was an improvement!

Jim would just offer advice on how bendy people can actually be. "Get to work!"

There was an epic amount of facepalming from Bones' corner. What the hell was this?

Hoshi blinked as she looked at some of the pictures. "Some of those positions aren't really possible, are they?" she asked aloud.

"Just a bit of flexibility." Diana guessed out loud.

"More than just a little bit. I've counted twice, and the girl in this pic looks like she has four legs, two on the floor and two more wrapped around his waist," said Hoshi, raising an eyebrow.

Diana glanced closer at the picture. "Could be two girls."

"Maaaaaybe, but I think that the figure in the middle has something between its legs, if you look really close. That is, if you want to look really close," said Hoshi, wincing.

Diana tilted her head in various angles. "Maybe something got broken off."

. . . yeah, the look on Tahiri's face? That was the look that was going to stay there all class. Yes, even for the majority of it when she had her head down on her desk, covering it with her arms.

To keep the mess contained when her head inevitably exploded.

Karla kept glancine over Tahiri. Thus far, she had managed to be a good friend and neither do or say anything that might be the spark that started the explosion.

But it was So Hard Not To.

Tahiri might get the sensation of being watched. And a lot of amusement warring with sympathy.

Seriously, though. With one single comment, Karla could probably make Tahiri's brain melt. Just one!

...Not even mentioning Ben!

Tahiri so had the sensation of being watched, and gave Karla a pitiful look. No melting the brain! It was weird enough!

. . . wasn't it?

Tahiri could look at it as an alternative form of therapy! Melted brain = no Riina! Karla was just thoughtfully exploring alternative options. Wasn't she a good friend?

Maybe if Karla just sent Tahiri one or two of the conven's lessons about sex, it would make her feel better? If nothing else, it would show how tame this class was.

But but but -- that would go straight past brain-melting into spontaneous combustion and that would be really bad!

Tahiri made a helpless squeaking noise and put her head down on her desk again.

Emma was really more interested in seeing how long Professor Algren was going to hide than in her handouts; it wasn't anything she hadn't seen in some of the more pornographic thoughts and dreams of humanity

These were much prettier and more interesting, sadly, but it still wasn't new. Counting how long Algren could go without breathing... that was interesting.

That was the noise Karla's psychic sendings made when she was trying very hard not to laugh. *Has Mr. Algren never seen a naked female before? Has the entire class been raised in ignorance?*

Little Miss Black Widow Healer was feeling very smug right now. It was easy to do that when the discussion of sex didn't involve her.

*But why? People generally don't have sex for the reproductive and biological aspects of it; especially not people our age. They have it because it feels good. It's fun. To fully express themselves and their Craft.* Okay, maybe not so much on the last one for people not from Kaeleer.

Not that this class was going much better, anyway.

And the innuendo went sailing over Karla's head.

*That would be priceless!* Karla's shoulder's shook from the effort of not laughing aloud. *Can you imagine their faces if we were the ones who were lecturing? I'm sure our class would be much more awesome. And at least neither of us would be as horribly embarrassed as Mr. Algren.*

Alex really kind of loved this class. He got to learn about things like that Kama Sutra, got to watch one of his professors nearly turn into ash because of embarrassment and got to let his mind run wild.

Mark of a good class. He could deal with coming to this one every week.

... Yeah, this was still awesome. Inspirational (well, some of the bits that didn't require you to be double jointed) and they were letting them get artistic.

Angela was grinning as she flipped through the pictures.

Wait, wait, wait.

The whole idea of this class was to make sexually explicit sculptures?

Algren wasn't the only one facepalming. Cal did not consider himself a prude by any means; he was pretty sure that a person didn't live through his brand of sexual exploits to be a prude.

But you did live through those sorts of sexual exploits and wind up with your knowledge leaving a bad taste in your mouth, at times.

Something about this made Zach distinctly uncomfortable. But, hey, art was art! That was always a plus, even if he hadn't done much sculpting. Like, ever.

Seregil looked through the pictures with interest; it looked like some of the decorations at the better houses on the Street of Lights, which led to him contemplating the teachers' reactions to such a place. Kirk, he decided would probably go about trying to sample as many houses as he could. Algren would... probably react with the same expression he was wearing now.

Seregil smirked in private amusement.

Leda didn't giggle at the handouts. She was however surprised. "Did they have to have people model for these?"
