Alpha Beta Gremlin meeting; Wednesday [ 09/09 ].

It was an unholy union, this team of Elle Woods and Turtle Wexler, and no one seemed to be as aware of this fact as Turtle Wexler herself. Thanks to everything else going on today, Turtle had to turn the reins over to Elle to prepare for ABG's first meeting this semester and, while it was great because everything was coming from Turtle & Canary, it was coming at Elle's discretion.

Which meant that the classroom was decked out in a lot of pink and glitter. A lot. Who knew there were even other shades of pink than hot and pepto bismol? Apparent, Elle knew, and the whole rainbow of pink was splattered over desks in the form of cloths, chairs in the form of ribbons, and the handles of baskets containing all sorts of delicious and thankfully not-so-pink baked goods (the muffins, for instance, were not pink, although there were iced cupcakes that fit the theme). It was actually making Turtle feel a little nauseous, although that might just be that she was stuffing her face with some cookies after probably way too much sugar already today.

Either way, they made their introductions, Elle in her bubbly Elle way, and Turtle, while bouncy, seemed even more straight-laced and professional by comparison. "We're very excited," she said, "to get Alpha Beta Gremlin started up again, and it's really excited to see such a great turn-out, too! Now, basically, a sorority like this is not just padding for your transcripts. A sorority like this is also a chance to bond with your other female Fandom Highers, and a chance to improve the community. I'm talking sleep overs, bake sales, community clean up projects, all made more fun because of the bond between ABG'ers."

"To welcome you all to the sisterhood, Elle and I have put together little bags for everyone, and they've got your name on it and are filled with fun little things, as well as your ABG badge to display proudly to the world." The bags, pink, of course, were filled with fun confetti, tubes of glitter, fun size candies, little bottles of nail polish and tiny tubes of glittery lip gloss, some hair accessories, some cool glittery pens, highlighters, the ABG pins, and a five dollar gift card for Turtle & Canary -- guess who contributed what.

"What we're going to do today," Turtle continued, "is just sort of chill out and mingle and get to know each other a little better, although some of us probably know each other pretty well. In that case, what we'd like is for you to branch out and if there's a sister here that you don't know very well, go and talk to that person and get that changed! If you do feel you know everyone here really well, good for you! Have some more cookies."

"I'd also like everyone to take a moment to fill out a little card and put it into this bag,"--pink, of course--"for ideas on what you'd like ABG to accomplish this year. And then next meeting, we'll go through some of the suggestion cards and think more seriously on how to get them done. Today, however, we'll just tighten our bonds of sistership and enjoy all this really good stuff Elle's baked for us."

"Also, Miss Upland will be our adviser for the semester, so make sure to thank her. I'm sure she's got plenty of good ideas, herself." And lots and lots of more pink and glitter, so help them all.

[[ please wait for the OCD has made it through the hazing! Elle modded with permission! ]]

That... was kind of scary, in Joan's opinion. Though next time a certain someone bugged her, she might have to ask about the prevalence of pink and glitter in Heaven.

"Oh, hey, I'm Joan," she said, introducing herself.

"Azula," she returned with a nod, "Princess of the Fire Nation."

"Oh, right! You had a booth at the fair today," Joan said. "I didn't get a chance to stop by."

"It is a shame, the still work-in-progress Fire Nation booth was a highlight."

Of course she would think that.

Joan nodded. "I'm sure it was. That's the problem with having an idiot for a mun running something. You don't get to experience it."

"Yes," Azula agreed, "organizing does tend to leave one out of certain activities."

"I'm not organizing this one though," Joan said.

"Still you missed my booth?" Azula chided. "It was a really good booth."

"Oh, I meant I'm not organizing the sorority," Joan explained. "But maybe next multicultural fair."

Azula nodded. "Ah, yes." She paused, "I joined without really doing the research but what does this club do?"

"The sorority? Well, I never joined one, they're usually a college thing," Joan said. "But it's basically all about celebrating sisterhood, from what I understand."

Re: Chat and Mingle -- 09/09.

[identity profile] azuldragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Celebrating sisterhood?" Azula repeated trying very hard not to sound both disappointed and disdainful. "But the description said something about future leaders or did I translate it wrong?"

Stupid dictionary. She knew she'd get one wrong.

Joan shrugged. "Sororities can be a good networking tool once you're out of school. Maybe that's what it meant?"

Re: Chat and Mingle -- 09/09.

[identity profile] azuldragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Networking?" Azula repeated, another new term confusing her. "What is a 'network'?"

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's basically just, like, a group of people you know?" Joan said, guessing for the most part from what she had heard. "There's thing saying about how it's not what you know, it's who you know that people use a lot when it comes to getting jobs and stuff."

Re: Chat and Mingle -- 09/09.

[identity profile] azuldragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"I... see," she said, not really seeing it.

Re: Chat and Mingle -- 09/09.

[identity profile] joan-notjane.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Joan shrugged. "It's really just an excuse for the girls of Fandom to hang out and do stuff without boys, I think."

Re: Chat and Mingle -- 09/09.

[identity profile] azuldragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
She really should have asked before joining but she had been pressed for time.

"Well, I suppose I can see the appeal of organizing activities without any boys involved."
