The day after a holiday and one can only hope that people aren't hungover from celebrating. Well, if they were American. And from a time period that Labor Day is celebrated.

Look, it was an excuse for a day off for a lot of people. That's good enough for a party most of the time.

"Good morning class, today we'll be looking into another era in the history of sex. This time it will be ancient Egypt. Which, trust me, will hold your attention if you find prostitution and ritual virginity losing ceremonies to be just slightly interesting."

"Although," Algren noted, casting a sidelong look at Kirk, "prostitution seems a strong word. Considering the day and age, with medicine the way it was and the average life expectancy so much lower than it is now, the ancient Egyptians had sound reason for what they did."

Riiiight. Thank you for that bit of losing the interest of teenagers there.

"A more... enlightened view of sex then?" Jim suggested. "Where women who exchanged sex for monetary gain or religious purposes advertised their 'wares' as it were by wearing essentially fishnet dresses or tattooing their thighs and going nude."

Algren was a killjoy. He was not sorry for it in the least.

"The goal was to not only conceive a child, but to survive childbirth and bear healthy offspring," he noted, dryly. "If they managed to survive childbirth, then they would come to be seen as a desirable prospect as a future wife. They held elaborate ceremonies, festivals, if you will, which existed for the sole purpose of culminating in a mass..."

... He balked. Look, he was Victorian. There were some words that existed in his vocabulary well enough that were never going to leave his mouth.

"Orgy," Jim said for him, putting extra emphasis on it just to piss the man off.

"... Thank you, Jim." Algren did not look terribly thankful.

Jim gave him a pleasant smile. "No problem. If a woman survived childbirth, you had the opportunity to pick your husband. Polygamy was technically legal, but not engaged in for the most part mostly do to the inability to support so many wives and children."

"While we don't know the exact specifics of the customs involved in the 'act of' during such... events, we do know several key points about the ancient Egyptians." Algren straightened out his jacket. It was not an uncomfortable twitch, shut up. "We know that, for starters, they had absolutely no problems with nudity, in the day, and their paintings were abundant in sexual innuendo. They wrote graphic love poetry, and their sexual practices followed the lead of the Egyptian goddess, Hathor." Why yes, that absolutely was a handout or two, for the curious. "Their society was, in fact, highly centered around fertility."

"So, today we'll be having you try your hand at Egyptian poetry," Jim said, relaxing as he leaned against the teacher's desk. "Yes, love poetry. And we do encourage you to be as graphic as need be ~~keeping in mind this is an open comm~~."

"Give the guy a minute," Angela laughed, leaving him with his pencil and leaning onto her elbows. "Maybe he's only just getting started. Nothing wrong with taking a little time."

"Nothing wrong with being fast either," he said and attached the drawing to the poem. "Think these go together?"

"We are going to get great marks," she said, grinning. "Poetry and illustration all in one."

"...And it depends on the situation."

"I've never had complaints about fast," he said. Of course, he very rarely tried slow. That seemed to...emotional, for some reason. "Most girls like it."

"Not at all the relationship sort of guy, are you?" she noted.

Girls in relationships, she knew, might actually want the more emotional-seeming side from time to time.

"Not really," he said, shrugging and shaking his head. Relationships were hard and meant opening yourself up. He'd been burned on that before. "That's a little too much attachment for me. Not really my thing."

"Hm." She considered him briefly and shrugged. "Well, I'm sure all the girls bored in hot elevators appreciate that."

"Exactly," he said and nodded. "We all gotta do our part and that's mine."

That's what he thought, at least. His mind tended to have other ideas most of the time.

"How very noble of you," she teased. "Self-sacrificing to a fault."

"I do try," he said and tried to look modest. "It's a sacrifice that I'm glad to make. Whatever I can do to help those girls that need some attention in hot elevators."

"Found many of those in your time?" she had to ask.

"A few here and there," he said, lying to preserve his ego. "You'd be surprised, I think! Some girls just really like elevators."

"One I can't say I've tried," Angela admitted. "One of these days, I'm sure."

"Everyone should try it," he agreed with a nod. "It's pretty damn fun."

Not that he'd tried it or anything. Just imagining the fun it could be.

"Unfortunately, not something I get the opportunity to try much," she said, laughing. "This school really loves it's stairs."

"I bet you could manage hot time in the stairs too," he said thoughtfully. "Just make sure you don't get caught or kink the hell out of someone's back."

Angela... actually seemed to consider that. "Might have to see how quiet the stairwells are late at night," she half-joked.

"If I hear any sex noises in the stairs at night, I'm gonna assume it's you and your boyfriend," he decided. "Might get you a reputation."

"I'm sure it's nothing I haven't earned already in the eyes of our neighbors." This girl? Immune to being uncomfortable about that these days.

"Lucky guy," he said and snickered. "If I were the jealous type, I'd be jealous."

"In my experience, every guy is the jealous type," she said, grinning and leaning back in her seat. "It just takes the right inspiration."

"I'm not." Oh, he could be. Yes, he could be. "I don't get jealous over things like that."

"Mm, I've heard that before," Angela told him easily. "And I'm holding with my assertion."

"You're gonna end up wrong." Or not. "But I respect your right to have that wrong opinion."

"I don't think you'd tell me if I was right," she said, shaking her head. "Might dent your ego."
