The Club Fair - Gym - Friday Afternoon

Today was the day of the club fair! Wasn't it just so exciting?!

Jean was totally excited.

So excited, in fact, that she showed up early to find it just as everything was being set up like the little overachiever she was. Maybe she'd be able to swing voters here!

Oh look! The club schedule! This was going to be so great, right everyone?!

[[Please wait for the OCD is up, go to town!]]

Hoshi could not help snickering as she spotted Cal. "What, they didn't have barbers in Turkey?" she asked. "You were spending the summer there, if I heard correctly."

Cal grinned, but the grin slid into a chuckle before he could help himself. "That," he said, putting down his chair and his legs so that he could sit up and talk to Hoshi more easily, "is exactly what I've been telling everyone. And I did, spend my summer there. It was....incredible. I really need to travel more. How was your summer, Hoshi?"

"After a rough start, it wasn't so bad," said Hoshi. "I got talked into going home to my time for a little while, but things there didn't work out. I came back for the second half of the summer and I'm determined not to leave until they make me."

"Awww," Cal said, "sucks that it didn't go so well. I'm glad to be back, but I definitely liked the trip a lot, too. I'll probably do something like it again next summer."

"I did like sightseeing in Greece last summer while the island was there," said Hoshi. "But I'm starting to wonder how well I fit in back home after spending a couple years in Fandom. I'm not entirely convinced I should go back after I graduate."

Cal's head tilted slightly, sending some of the long strands of hair into his face. He thought about not pushing them back, but he did in the long run, tucking them behind his ear. "Would you have a secondary back up plan if you didn't?" he asked.

Hoshi tried to fight the urge to suggest that Cal get a scrunchie. "I could go to a university here or one in my time period and get a degree in linguistics," she said. "There are still some good schools back home even if I don't end up joining Starfleet like I planned, and it's not like I have to go back to Japan."

Cal nodded a little, hair falling forward again, though he didn't need a damn scrunchie. It just so happened that he liked it in his face. He'd missed long hair a little. "That could definitely work," he said. "There's, like, a million different worlds probably opened just by coming here. How long do you have to decide?"

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
"It's only September, and graduation's not until May. I suppose I have until then," said Hoshi. "Or I could always go visit someone whose time runs different and take a little longer to decide before heading back to my time."

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fandom High Times

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"That," Cal decided, "sounds like too much of a headache for me. I think it's surprising enough going back to the seventies and wind up standing on a soapbox somewhere in just my underwear, calling out about how I have seen the future and there are still no flying cars!"

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fandom High Times

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Actually, it'll be another century before you see anything like flying cars, and they won't have any wheels," warned Hoshi. "But it is convenient. If I get a portal from the causeway, I can have someone meet me with a transport pod and be in Japan in 20 minute or so."

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fandom High Times

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"I would hope they wouldn't have wheels," Cal said. "What would they need them for?"

"Whatever roads they have are just for decorative purposes anyway," said Hoshi. "I mean, if you've got sub-orbital travel, you can get anywhere in the world in less than an hour."

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"But there's still got to be a few wanderers, right?" Cal asked. "People who still like the feel of ground beneath their feet? I traveled by foot through a lot of Turkey; could have taken cars, but I kind of liked all the walking. Well, some of it was walking only, up in mountains and cliffs, but you get my point."

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fandom High Times

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, there's still some really remote areas where you could walk," said Hoshi. "If I had stuck with Starfleet, they would have sent me to someplace in Australia for survival training."

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fandom High Times

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Australia for survival training sounds awesome," Cal decided, even if he also decided that he would suck at it, but that didn't stop him with Turkey, and he still had a few pains to show for that, too. "You should do it anyway. Just go off to the Outback for the hell of it."

"Out in the middle of nowhere? I'm not sure if it's my idea of fun, but maybe I'll consider visiting," said Hoshi. "I've heard they have some really huge spiders there."

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fandom High Times

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Cal wasn't sure what to say to that, mostly because he was trying to avoid the fact that spiders were, admittedly, gross.

"And none of their animals can move backwards."

That worked.

"Not as far as I know," said Hoshi. "Actually, there is a university in Brazil that I should check out in my time. They have a really good linguistics department, even if it's in the middle of a rain forest."

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fandom High Times

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Even if it's in the middle of a rainforest?" Cal asked, arching an eyebrow. "But you'd get to say you went to college in the middle of a rainforest!"

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fandom High Times

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
"It would certainly be unique, and I'm sure I'd pick up some really interesting stories," said Hoshi, smiling.

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fandom High Times

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Although, yeah," Cal laughed a little, "probably not nearly interesting as the stories from here, but you'd be surprised how many things in real life can be just as weird or shocking."

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fandom High Times

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"The difference is that people back home don't believe my stories from this place," laughed Hoshi.

Re: Talk to the Representative - Fandom High Times

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2009-09-05 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, but why care?" Cal asked with a grin.
