Art 101 - Wednesday, 9/2 - Fourth Period

If anyone asked why an art class was being done in the Danger Shop, it would be hard to say if Nick would have an answer. At least, an answer he could give.

All the same, the room was set up in the style of a very pretty, somewhat rustic art studio with lots of windows and many easels and supplies stacked in the corner. There were desks, but only so many as the students might need and they took up a relatively small section of the studio that seemed to have a chalkboard added to it.

"Good afternoon, class," he greeted them as they walked in, a copy of the syllabus on every desk, "and welcome to Art 101. As the description on the class said, we will be studying art history... but we will also be applying those lessons in our own self-expression and the expansion of our understanding of what art is as well as what it has been in various times and cultures."

He half-sat on the desk, a little slouchy but still professional.

"Today, however, we start with introductions, of course, and a bit of free expression."

[ocd up!]

Savannah went immediately for the sculpting materials. This was something she didn't do often, so she was excited about working with clay again.

She looked up with a smile. "Trying to be. It's not something I've done very often, but I'm very interested in learning more."

"Exactly," Savannah agreed as she molded the clay. "Do something different."

Raven really didn't have the faintest idea what to do. She took a sketchbook and colored pencils and tried to draw. Whatever it was, it was very abstract.

"I have never attempted any sort of artwork before," Raven said.

"Art...is very emotional, is it not?" Raven asked.

Jack took a sketchbook and some charcoals. He was just doodling, really, but the girl in the corner of the pad looked more and more like Emma Frost the more he worked at the drawing.

Having brought his own sketchbook along, Griff chose to use it rather than the offered supplies, nice as they were. He settled comfortably on the floor, resting the book against his knees and started drawing. His mind seemed a little trapped in talk of the night before, but the moment he realized what was coming to the page he flipped it and started on something much safer.

"Oh!" Griff was surprised by his sudden arrival as usually he was the one sneaking up on people. "No, just...not what I wanted to draw."

"Uh, thanks," Griff said, curious, but glad he hadn't pried because sketches of sleeping girls were sort of creepy on some levels - even if it wasn't your fault you saw it.

Cordelia ended up sitting by a window, with a canvas and some water colors and was just painting what she saw outside.

Lots of trees and flowers and grass. Pretty easy.

Jason grabbed some paper and crayons and since he couldn't really draw real well, he just made some stick figures. One had fangs and the other was shoving a stake into the fang dude's crayon thin chest.

It was awesome.

Shilo began playing with the modeling clay, making a sort of abstract person from it.
